steam are having a fairly good sale with up to 70% off some of the newer modules (including the FW190)

Dont think of it as being vastly outnumbered ... but just having a large target selection.

LOL, I almost double posted. Picked up my FW-190 and F-86. Too bad the MiG21's a bit high yet, but she's on my wishlist too.

Thanks for beating me to the posting.

You can use these steam keys with the non steam version of the game correct? Thinking about the F-86 and F-15

Yes, Yes, Yes, for the 10000000000th time, Yes.

Add DCSW to your Library (If it isnt), Go throughthe Process of creating the folders, uncheck desktop Icons, let it download, then pause, set updates to manual, tell it to delete local content, but dont delete the /steamapps/common/DCS folder.

From that point on the Starforce Proactive keys will be added to the DLC/View CD Key Dialog.

That seems rather equivocal to me... I'm not convinced.

I already have most of the non-steam DCS titles, but there are a couple I'd like to pickup in the Steam Sale... How do I use those titles in the non-steam version, and vice-versa. Thanks in advance, I know this has probably been answered before...

So I figured out how to buy from Steam, and add bind to the non-Steam DCSW, but how to I bind in reverse, the titles I already own, to the Steam version of DCSW?

Well, all of my other DCSW title were purchased well before June 7, 2014. Yet NONE of them appear in the Steam version. How do I merge the two?

If you have mixed steam and non-steam purchases, merge away from Steam. Never use Steam for DCS:World again.

Steam CD keys will work on ED's website. ED website keys will not work on Steam, unless you bought them prior to the cut off date many months back.

Valve stopped allowing ED store keys to be activated because people kept buying from the ED website and activated on Steam. This resulted in Valve paying for server bandwidth without making a cent. The original intention for the practice was to get ED product users to migrate to Steam, but that wasn't happening.

ED can go to a Steamworks route, meaning all CD keys activate on Steam. But that means any CD key bought anywhere, including ED's website, will have to send some of the profits to Valve. This is how many games do it, such as Borderlands 2. If you buy a DVD copy of BL2 at a local store, some of the profits go to Valve. But at least as of now, ED does not seem interested in this route.

I myself am not using my install on Steam and now own one module that I don't have on Steam. I suggest everyone to do this, as you send more money to ED (Valve takes up to 35% for each game sold on Steam I believe) and you can participate in both the Steam sales and ED webstore sales.

If ED were to better upgrade Steamworks support, such as making it upload joystick profiles, missions and tracks to Steam Cloud, I would be more interested in using Steam versions.

As for the sale itself, great prices.

What I like about Steam is the ability to have multiple installations on multiple PCs... as long as I log in to only one PC at a time, I can install and play the game on as many PCs as I wish. This is great if you are rebuilding a hard drive or building a new PC when you merely reinstall Steam to get your games back.

But ED DCS licensing limits are still in place with Steam installs. This defeats the principle advantage Steam offers to me. So, I never converted my DCS install to Steam and still see no reason to ever do so.

Yes, I would say the conflict between how ED wants to do things and how Steam lets things work for most other games is the reason why it's not working well.

When it was first announced I had every intention of moving everything to Steam. First was the problem with the BS2 upgrade vs full version, then there was the FC3 issue, then the keys...in the end, my only DCS Steam title is A-10C, which I bought pre-DCS World. I just buy everything on the DCS site and pretend the Steam one doesn't exist.

I agree. DCS world auto-updates and auto-installs modules now so there's no real advantage over Steam. I seem to remember back when Warthog came out it was all about checking the website and manually downloading gigabytes worth of patches, update BS1 to BS2, then install that and what not, which was really tedious.

It's really smooth now and once you have DCS world installed it keeps itself current just like Steam would. It's only maybe a bit confusing that you can't add products from within the game but have to go to your DCS account on the website, but once you get that...
