I run my "RIG" at all "5's" and get 60 FPS at normal speed, even in dogfights. Very large dogfights will drop it to the 40's or so.
Love the Silver Stone case, very quiet and cool. The Aero Cool touch screen keeps me "in the loop" on Temps and fan operation.
Hope this helps.

Rick, I'll put in the following for recommendation, considering that WOFF is very CPU dependent:
Intel i5 4670K(the "K" means its multiplier is unlocked for better over-clocking) Asus Maximus VI Hero motherboard Cooler Master Seidon 240 liquid cooling kit. This may not fit in your current case, though.
It's a bit of a slippery slope if you start upgrading just the motherboard and CPU. You need to make sure that you have adequate cooling and power as you go up in CPU speed. What is your current Power Supply?
I'm running my 4670K at 4.4 Ghz, and I'm pegged at 60 FPS even during large furballs.

Agreed, *if* he can find a deal. When I did my research, the general consensus was that the i5 4670K was the best "bang for buck", and the performance difference in most games between the 4670K and 4770K were not enough to warrant the $100 price differential. Things may have changed by now, though. Once I build a new rig, I kind of ignore hardware for a year or two until it's time to think about a video card upgrade.

Roger to all of those posts! Based on my ridiculous death in the last challenge, I probably need to figure some new controllers into my purchase plan. My pedals and joystick are at least 15 years old and could certainly stand an upgrade.

Well, age of a controller is not necessarily an issue, My MSFFB2 Pro is very old and yet I wouldn't trade it for anything that is out there now.

lol, Rick. Are they even USB controllers? Man, I wish! They are serial from back when gameports were de riguer! I have to use a usb adapter and when I calibrate them, the axis will occasionally spike, so I'm pretty sure that they are wearing. It's an old Sidewinder pro and CH pedals. If I had been able to video capture my last flight, you'd see that what was happening was ridiculous even for the testy SPAD...

So will you stay with force feedback? I love my Saitek X52 setup, but I think I'd do better with some stall warning, etc from the stick. Who makes FFB sticks these days?

Can not help but notice none of you have mentioned HDD/SSHD/SSD or Raid systems. Hard drives are your bottlenecks not your CPU speeds
Memory Speeds.... AMD users only have the memory speeds on the dual channels and then at reduced timings. Intel is the way to go even if I do run a AMD FX 8350 myself Intel really does have the edge in this department.
OC'd using software OC... might want to check voltage settings and look at getting from auto to manual sets. I cannot tell you how dangerous it is to allow software or bios to manage power especially anyone running gigabyte brand and lesser boards.
fps should be limited to 60fps at a constant anyone pushing less should tweak settings to hit that number. Anyone pushing more should be looking at monitor refresh rates and making sure it is still at a 1/1 ratio with fps or better.

Well, of course SSD drives are awesome, but that's not going to improve your FPS. It *will* help with loading game files into the memory cache, no doubt!
WOFF loves CPU power, and plenty of it.

WOFF loves CPU power, and plenty of it. Yep, that's correct. Also, I hope the devs are busy working on transfering the load off of the CPU and on to the GPU. This will probably make the game a lot smoother.

While we are here, anybody recommend a good set of pedals and an ambidextrous stick?

WOFF loves CPU power, and plenty of it. A computer system is just that a computer system. If you improve the system, it improves the "system" Setting core affinity is another area that can massively improve a system. A simple thing like setting all games off core 0 and onto 1,2,3 only and removing Joysticks/trackIR/Fraps and any other software you may use for games (Non window related) off cores 0,1,2 and 3 A nice tip is setting TrackIR to above normal priority. Windows is pretty good at managing priorities but this is a safe experiment for you to try. (Do not change to real time that is a anti virus or firewall priority) This will use more resources but give you a noticeable difference to how TrackIR performs. Other small things like removing page file if you have 8gb or more ram and disabling indexing services if you do not use windows file search options. Can free up resources which can boost a systems performance. CPU can influence your FPS, RAM usage can Influence your CPU. So HDD pulls can influence your FPS. To what extent ? That is a question that varies from computer to computer, but saying something in the same system does not influence a certain aspect of that system is not true. It is like saying car seats does not effect the drive of a car, say that when they give you a noticeable delay in feedback from the road. To stay on subject SSD's are nice but RAID 0 HDD's are affordable. But then small things like running games from a secondary rather than your primary can improve performance. why go complicated and expensive when simple things can work.
