http://io9.com/marvel-debuts-their-new-phase-3-movies-including-capta-1651832265

These are of course after Age of Ultron next year. From 2016 thru 2019, yes 5 years from now.

Cap America 3: Civil War
Dr Strange
Guardians of the Galaxy 2
Thor 3: Ragnarok
Black Panther
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1
Capt Marvel (Carol Danvers for those who care, not Mar-Vell)
Inhumans (so, Skye on SHIELD??)
Avengers: Infinity War Part 2

Put in your earplugs to prevent damage from comic fan squeals.

Capt Marvel is a woman named Carol?
How likely is it that they can keep the current actors in their roles for all of these movies?

Money talks. Big time. I think Robert Downey Jr. may be an exception though because quite honestly, how much more money does he really need? lol

I am surprised that they dont have another Iron Man lined up. That was/is the big hitter that started these marvel reboots as successes and RDJ has stated he would be willing to do another one.

He's got a major role in Cap 3 and who knows about the other Avenger films. That may be enough for him.

Of course, the problem is that many of these films are following comic book arcs that feature the deaths or departures of the main characters. Who knows who will still be around after Cap America 3?

I'm pretty excited about Benedict Cumberbatch being caste as Dr. Strange. I think he fits the role much better than Johnny Depp as was previously rumored.

Somehow I am not thrilled. Superhero-saturation and - at least in my opinion - pointless Iron Man vs. Captain America stuff will not advance the genre. Too many characters to follow, too many "supergroups" (Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Secret Avengers, New Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, New Warriors, Guardians of the Galaxy....ugh).

The "Civil War" IMO is a particularly lousy idea for the franchise. I'd rather have them build on the current Avengers, and have screenwriters come up with original ideas for totally new stories. Let the comic books stand on their own, and have the movies follow a different path.

Why men throw their lives away attacking an armed Witcher... I'll never know. Something wrong with my face?

Agree with you but the only "saturation" that Disney/Marvel Studio will care about is if and when the first Marvel movie bombs at the box office. Only then will they take notice and make changes.

Agree, but that's the problem right there. "Original Ideas" is now a lost art in Hollywood.

When the DC movies are rolling out just as fast, I think we're all going to get sick of these movies. The budgets will drop, the talent will change, some projects will drop off entirely, and eventually this era will end for a while. It's not too much yet, but it will be.
For Guardians, I enjoyed that as a scifi movie, not comic hero flick, so I hope that continues.

Interesting.... I'm curious why you don't see Guardians as a comic hero (book) flick? I viewed the scifi props as support for the movie. (which I thought were done well). Just as, say Iron Man's suit is just a scifi prop in a comic hero flick. Same as the Helicarriers are props in Avengers.

Wow we have strayed out of the Scifi forums into the Main. Cool! lol

Had I not known ahead of time that "Guardians of the Galaxy" came from comics I would have been completely fooled by what I saw in the film. I took it as a straight up science fiction film with some humor thrown in.

The same thing happened to me when I saw "Men in Black" except that I didn't even know it was based on a comic until several months after I saw the film.

Just didn't seem like a super hero movie, more like a classic scifi underdog hero type of storyline. It was very "Farscape" to me.
If they get brought here for the Avengers movie, I think it will be a bit of a letdown. I'd rather keep that separate.

Pretty much all comic book films are light SF now. The explanations for the causes of powers and all sit squarely in the realm of SF.

As for Avengers/Guardians, it already happened. The end of Thor 2 had Thor and Sif drop that artifact off at the Collector's place, and we saw him again in Guardians.

Interesting article here on the market economics of all these comic book films,

"Between 2016 and 2018, the four companies will release at least a dozen superhero movies each year."

Yikes.
I think as they get away from the well known across generations heroes that this trend may stumble. Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers etc....we all know them.
Some of what they have slated just doesn't sound interesting. Especially Capt Marvel in the female incarnation.
But what do I know? I didn't know Guardians but I loved that movie.

i think i've mentioned thisbefore, nevertheless..

IMO hollywood is like a child with a new toy (CGI) and we as the audience are also amazed at the new advances in computer graphics. we'll see more movies that pushes the limit of this technology and the genres best suited for that are scifi and fantasy.

eh, superhero movies are fantasies masquerading as scifis.

bottom line, any excuse to use CGI... and be cool.

It's true that when it comes to straight dramas they've been doing them for 100 years now on film (and far, far longer on stages) so there's nothing new there. SF has been around roughly as long as film, but it took a few decades for good SF films (the 50s) to start.

Comics by and large are untapped for films. Unfortunately, I fear we'll be saturated in no time. DC really seems to have nothing but Batman and Superman that works on film, although they've had decent success on TV.

It will be interesting to see when Marvel's first failure will happen. Well, the first since Blade Trinity anyway.

My prediction will be the Black Panther film.

I'd place even money on Ant Man.
