I successfully upgraded to game version 1.4. Found JSGME and have it here:

Ubisoft Game Launcher
Cache
Data
JSGME

is this the correct folder ?

Used a Winzip7 program ..... malware ad search/browser highjack program was attached to it ....used Malwarebytes to get rid of it

the last time i used TMO i somehow ended up putting a system file into it instead of a mod and it hosed by entire system

JSGME should go in the root folder of SH4. So if you had a steam installation for example it would go in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Silent Hunters Wolves of the Pacific

But navigate to wherever your Wolves of the Pacific folder is and place it in there. When you run it from within the main directory (or just create a shortcut on your desktop, it will pay off) it should create a folder called Mods, also in the main Wolves of the Pacific folder. Any mods you download will be extracted to that Mods folder.

Version 1.5 of the game will be needed for most current mods, though there are 1.4 versions of many. Version 1.5 needs the U-Boat missions add-on, or the Gold edition.

Yes the only way to get 1.5 is the U-Boat missions add-on or the Gold edition.

BTW, I am back in TMO for the current career. This is the mod soup I'm using.

1_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_2-5
1_TMO_25_small_patch
TMO_Aft_deckguns
TMO_SubTextures_FooSkin
Improved Stock Environment_v3_TMO&RFB
Nav Map Make-Over v2.1
Nav Map Make-Over v2.1 Patch 1
Webster's Eliminate Floating Plankton
3000 Meter Bearing Tool (1920x)

One word of warning, don't attempt to switch a bow gun to stern. It causes issues. If you want to have a stern gun, use the mod in my list.

The small patch fixes a bug that causes you to sometimes be offered a Tambor as an upgrade, even if you are already in a Gato or Balao, so not exactly an upgrade. I really like the map I'm using, definitely prefer it over the stock map.

I think most people use the RSRDC (Run Silent Run Deep) campaign. I use it for some TMO and RFB careers, and for some I don't. I think TMO has a lot to offer in the campaign that gets lost or removed when overlaying RSRDC. Still, RSRDC is excellent and a must if you want to be using highly accurate historic shipping routes.

4_Traveller Mod 2.6 Automatic Ship ID (optional , your crew id ships. Your not alone in sub afterall
Improved Stock Environment_v3_TMO&RFB

The question i have at this time is ...does TMO 2.5 and the other mods, after downloading ....get dropped into the SH4 root folder ? I unzipped TMO 2.5 into a folder on my destop.

If you just run JSGME and click the "Import" link in the center, then select your mod, JSGME will bring it over to the right place automatically. Then all you have to do is activate the mod, then repeat for as many mods as you choose.

In my opinion, both. I really like RFB, it has a lot to offer, but if I could only play one it would be TMO. I just think it's more polished and has more features. But I miss RFB's sinking mechanics when playing TMO. I play careers in each as the mood strikes.

I don't think you could go wrong with either. With JSGME it's a snap to do a patrol or two in each mod and see which you prefer. I find the escorts more challenging in TMO, but if you're a GWX vet I don't think you'll find it daunting.

Both mods do a fine job of making SH4 Pacific operations more historically correct, authentic, accurate, and challenging than stock SH4. I think the best idea is to try each, but I'll recommend Trigger Maru.

In TMO, one of the starting options is New Construction in either '42 or '43. Starting with sea trials at Mare Island before leaving on your first war patrol is a cool time machine indeed. In my current career I chose the '42 option, was given command of the Gato class boat Finback in February, and spent 'two months' on shakedown before heading to patrol off Kyushu, with stops at Pearl and Midway along the way. This is a great way to begin a first TMO career, and lets you get acclimated to your new boat, as well as gives the crew some experience before the shooting starts for real.

What are the sinking mechanics you're referring too? I personally would like to see different hull break up or even partial floating of a section rather than a hurried explosion and sinking. I'm not inferring that all hulls sink the same, but I also know they don't all blow up the same either.

RFB uses a system where flooding of compartments is used to determine if, and when, a ship will sink.

Ships in RFB will not break in two because the hitpoints were greatly increased. In addition, the 'ship sunk' message is delayed, introducing uncertainty.

But this is the only way RFB ships will sink. I would love a mod that featured realistic flooding mechanics as well as some ships exploding and going down quickly.

It is explained in more detail in the RFB manual
