1 Sept 1918. Guts but no Glory. On my 1st Mission over Mehiel spotted and attacked 2 Recon types. The Huns put 14 rds in my Left bottom wing making flying a struggle so dove out of the fight. I can confirm my wing-mate got both 2 seater's making him an Ace. Both our rides were damaged. ( mine is a loner pilot on leave)

Mudwasp, my 1st mission was a carbon copy of yours. Came up behind, sent one down smoking, circled around for another attack and the engine died. Luckily we over a friendly field and I was able to land safely. Good luck hoss

Salut

finished 3 missions now...I hate this bus, it stalls when you blow your nose to hard!

First mission was a training flight around Toul area, and we 3 find a lone D7...must of failed his Nav test then. Leader waves me down and one pass and its all over.

second day.. a very loooong line patrol. We saw nothing.

Day 3 ..scramble to intercept 4 Hanaovers...scary but we got em all.

Rosco Zilch's first mission with wingman Jarod Mossley is a Recon over enemy territory North of Verdon. All quiet until crossing the lines as we happen upon Fokker DVII's Going Home towards the NorthEast. We climb and turn south to get in the sun and prepare to pounce when ready. However, We didn't see 2 other DVII's lingering above. They dive on us and I take quite a few rounds that drop my health to 67%. I dive steeply and head towards the front but look back to see Mossley fighting one of the Fokker's and the other drops out of sight and heads towards home. I turn back to help Mossley and happen upon the now lonely DVII that shot me up heading home. I sneak in low and behind to get close enough to smell his exhaust. Then unload 2 quick bursts that send the pilot in a downward spiral. I follow him down to witness his demise then lift up and away heading back towards our side of the lines. I spot a German balloon, circle in and take aim, shoot 5 bursts and damn near blow myself up. Limping back across the lines my engine is strong and plane in tact after taking a few more bullets from ground fire, but my injuries are hurting and blood slowly filling my cockpit. Finally, land at our home base behind Jarod who made it back safely too. I submit two claims for the day and Jarod has one. I will live to fly another mission next time with more caution!

Gaw, sorry to see you are already out of the fight ... twice!

MudWasp, slipping in under a group of two-seaters is risky at best. You will nearly always take damage from the combined fire of all those gunners if you hang about for more than a few seconds after your initial attack. With the SPAD's speed and diving ability I recommend getting in position above your targets and using the BnZ the XIII was born to.

Carrick, you lived to fight another day so that makes it a successful mission in my book.

Rick, it appears you are flying that SPAD as if it were a turn fighter. It is not. winkngrin

Lederhosen, the SPAD needs speed and lots of it or it will stall. I will say it again, BnZ folks, BnZ.

Tailspinner, at least you got two weeks rest out of the engagement. Here's hoping for pretty nurses. cheers

Misson 02
"Spuds" Pringle
Sept 02 1918

"Spuds" asked about leading this Recce mission, but was told he'd best not. So he was the last pilot of three in B flight. Three pilots in A flight assisted. Sorry guys, I lost the screen shot of the mission. I know I saved it....The mission looked the same as the one Rick posted above.

He managed to keep up with flight leader Biddle and soon they were over enemy turf and must have been near the recce target when Biddle made moves indicating enemy craft nearby. "Spuds" struggled to see what/where and soon dove in on the action.

B flight regrouped, recced for awhile and headed home. Shortly after crossing into friendly airspace they spotted flak smoke and went to investigate. Un escorted German two seaters!

The final Rumpler was destroyed

Somehow the rear gunner got in a good burt as he burned to death

"Spuds" only had to spend 3 days in the hospital. The nurses teased him about his "baby fat" padding saving his life.

Jack is back from hospital and it's suddenly September 20. Hmm, he thought, if I have a couple of more spankings like this one I may not have time to finish the challenge until armistice. What then? duck

Mission #2
September 2, 1918
Toul, France? Belgium? Ma, I don't get these European countries all jammed together they need a few more oceans over here, sort everything out...

Non-sim note: The whole missions was running crappily, for some reason, as you can see from parts of the video. I really wasn't intending to sweep in front of him like that, but it happened before my control inputs registered. Gong to do a full system restart before I tackle #3...

Thanks, Robert, I was a bit surprised as well... near as I can tell, the Rumpler being busy being shot down was able to zing me in the split second I passed in front of him...the worst part is, I didn't even get to claim him!

Mission #2. Big Furball Hannovers and Fokker D VII.s. I couldn't get to the E/a Recon machines so did a show down with a Fokker Jasta 3? Guns banging away. Then dropped on his 6 a few more hits then hes gone in the clouds and his buddy fires from my six. No hits but as we dance hes better at it so dove for home only to fly under 4 more Fokkers. I did a Blue max in the trees only to run into a hillside. Dead Big Time.

Yeager got captured! What happened was, three of us were on our side again, and there were some white puffs up there, and the leader ignored them, but Yeager, well, he came all this way to shoot jerries, and he wasn't going to let a couple more thousand feet put him off, so off the goes after them, and catches up, and gets two to go down! The weird thing is, that it sounded and felt like he bumped into that 2nd one, and went spinning for a bit, but then regained control. Colliding and living ain't the weird part - what is, is that the engine went all quiet, but was still working! Well, as long as its pulling, Yeager figures to not worry, and sees three more bad guys, so off he goes again, only by the time he gets to 'em, he's a bit on their side, and he got dinged, so he turns around, and now his engine does quit, only he got back over the line(he thought), but musta been at a spot where there was a jerry patrol to take him.

But, once he got his oats back up (it took six days), he made a break and got back home! Docs here put him back in bed for another 6 days.

Doin real good over here in this country. We got a tatter farmer, a real Kaintuck boy and one feller says he's gonna be in those new moving pictured we heard tell about.
If you get a chance, send some grits with the next package. The food here sure ain't like home!
Love Always,
