A little more. http://www.wbrz.com/news/small-plane-wrecks-at-btr-airport/Don't dismiss the damage. Nosed over means prop strike. Prop strike means engine tear down and rebuild. Parts availability will be an issue. Let's hope it is a quick and easy repair and that she will be flying again soon.

It is not a BMW801, so parts should not be that hard to find.
There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB. The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed. There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

At first I figured it was due to the heavy nose weight of that particular bird. But in the last link they mentioned this; "The plane rain into crushed concrete at the end of the runway, designed to stop a plane before it goes out onto the road."Appears to be pilot error....maybe failed to judge the distance it would take to stop the aircraft? At least it's not serious. Seven of them left in the world, don't want to lose this one

Are there any airworthy 801 engines left?

As said, it isn't using a BMW 801. It is some sort of Russian engine. I read the maker and kind somewhere, but can't remember. Here it is. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shvetsov_ASh-82

-Skater There's at least one out there, yes. Something I've wondered about - when someone undertakes to "refurbish" an airplane that currently amounts to a pile of vaguely aircraft shaped aluminum oxide, do they build a new engine from scratch, the way they rebuild everything else except the name plate?
