The Engine Room
For an aircraft to show up on FlightRadar 24 I understand it needs to have an ADS-B compatible transponder (not mandatory yet) and the ADS-B transponder signal needs to be picked up by somebody on the ground with the necessary hardware hooked up to the FlightRadar 24 network.

Hence not everything you might see in the air is on FlightRadar 24.

Not much right now but yesterday it was the Thunderbirds departing MLB for DAB and their next gig.

Had the solo guy over my house...and I mean right over my house for the last few days prior to that.

Oh and Wireman get rid of all those old Molly Hatchett, AC/DC CD's and substitute some Michael Jackson stuff.
That should solve your pest problem.

Really cool site thanks for linking, two inbound for SFO and the eta's are a minute apart! Crazy to think they have two planes landing on parallel runways every minute. Same for take-offs as well.

I've got a bad feeling about this.....

No worries smile I spent far to much time tracking planes all over the joint last night and then diving into different cockpit views, first time in an A380 biggrin

Well the positioning of the a/c is questionable.

When the a/c is suppose to be on the runway, it is shown ~1km SSW of the runway.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Geez man, you have to understand it's not real-time. Security after 9/11 wouldn't allow that.

So that is why SWA180 from Austin to Las Vegas is shown over Carleton Place (~30 mi west of Ottawa).

Maybe it has been hijacked?

Gotta be that time difference between Canadia and the States.
I'm sure that explains it.

it's right if you talking about FAA ASDI data that comes from Federal Aviation Administration (orange icon), but ADS-B data (yellow) is quite correct - has only about 100m error due to aircraft avionics calibration. I'm sharing ADS-B data with fr24 myself, and all my aircrafts showing in real time. of course this site has it's own moderation and not always show info about some aircrafts. example - MH17's flightpath was deleted from history right after crash.

it shows, but most helicopters not send GPS coords so you can see rotary wing icons not really often.
you will get a lot of additional features if you have your own radio receiver so I can recommend for everyone who interested in it to buy really cheap sdr dongle and try it.

Thanks for the info. This could get quite addictive!

I seem to remember that I saw a helicopter tracked yesterday, and right now there is even a sailplane/glider.
They also seem to have some other data from FAA (with 5 mins delay), which they use to show flights outside normal tracking range, e.g. over the Pacific.
Edit: police helicopter and the sailplane just disappeared.
Edit2: There is also a JokerM1 around, which I have no idea what it might be, strange registration ID (73+28), at <80kts fairly slow, ...

this is a cool app that you can point your phone at and it will show you basic info of Civilian planes flying over you.

Now I understand why they don't, but damn I wish I had this for military coming into my local ANG base thumbsup

If you had asked me this two days ago I would have had a really interesting answer. One I know that NONE of you would have had. It was the B-29, FIFI.

The Flight Radar 24 app, linked from the first page, does that as well, just point the camera on the iphone at the aircraft and it tells you what it is simples smile

Does this work on Win7?
Or do you need Win8, or an 'app'?

Edit;
Oh yeah, just have to 'enable' everything....got it.
But you need to DL 'Google Earth' to get the aircraft view.
Can I remove that (uninstall), after I use it?
