Think some wires were getting crossed. ED itself told me it was 2.02 but I hadn't seen any sign of an update. Manage to connect but got dropped when coming out of hyperspace (this is all solo). Quit the game (having to ctrl+alt+del at the moment) and then noticed the launcher was prompting me to update. It definitely downloaded stuff this time, so I'll give it another shot. Beta-testing is fun! Also, for some reason my planets are now a bit jazzy...

It's supposed to look like that, they just got their irrigation channels finally set up.
In the manual the rows looked so much smaller...
Scully: Victim died of multiple stab wounds. Mulder: *throws her a file* Ever heard of the knife alien?

In 2.01 I was at least able to get into the tutorials and one time I at least got into my ship in solo (disco when I hit the first button in the starport menue).
With 2.02 the game freezes in the start menue within seconds.

Aside from occasional (not as occasional as I would like, if I'm honest) micro-freezes I've just played for an hour. It was breathtaking. Got 7.5g creds for a quick courier run to a tiny, out of the way research station. Came out of Hyperspace on the next jump being told that I had picked up unknown steller bodies. Scanned them both and sold the info at the next station for 500 creds. Seems that - unlike in the last build - a lot of the systems are fairly unexplored outside the mother star and whatever rock the main station is orbiting. System maps show lots of asteroid belts around stars instead of just planets....lots to see and explore in this build. And the planets are just beautiful now. The whole thing is stunning. Cannot even imagine what the next build let alone the finished game will be like. It would seem that in the same way combat was boosted in the premium beta, and trade was in the last one, the missions and exploration side of the game is being pushed. I might actually have to finally invest in some weapons and then go kill something. So many options for configuring your ship now from better life support systems to scanners to cargo space and new Frameshift drives. Noticed the new auto repair module as well. I guess that means wear and tear made it in. I'm on holiday for a week as of Friday night. Guess what I'll be doing?

As I understand it, they adjusted the supply and demand such, that it is hard to find (short) profitable runs, especially in the "old" Beta1 sectors which are overrun by people. So when you start in Eranin, the various missions and bounty hunting are the best way to make money.
That said, in the new sectors you may sometimes find a "sweet spot", like me yesterday. I found two neighbouring sectors, CR Draco and Theta Draconis, which must be in a very close "symbiotic" relation. All cargo and message delivery missions run between the two stations of those systems. And even better, they both also have a commodity supply/demand "setup", one offers Basic Medicines that the other needs, and Reactive Armor the other way around. The first earned me 265cr/t, the latter even 400-650cr/t. For the medicines supply and demand were so high that my little Cobra with 40t cargo capacity made no difference. For the armor the demand was <700, so the selling price steadily dropped with each run; but it also recovered when I made a few hours break. That also makes me think that the economy is actually working well and is also well-balanced - people just have to get out of the "old" sectors. Once in a while the armor gives even better earnings, as it is sometimes requested by the "Fuel for the war" mission. Those two sectors earned me >1Mio credits by trade and missions, which all "disapeared" in ship equipment...
USS bounty hunting is of course also given in the sectors, though you have to be careful. In one sector, if you start a fight (even against a "Wanted" indivídual), the local Authority ships will turn against you. You get no fine or bounty on your head (if you don't shoot at them), but as long as the fight lasts they will shoot at you.
