Hi all! I'm looking to improve my framerate in DCS, especially when it comes to CBU delivery and the like. My machine (specs here: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/wraith444/saved/pgh9TW) will typically run it around 40 FPS, though this dips down to around 5-10 when I use CBUs or submunition dispensers.

At this point I feel like I could be getting better performance. Are there any hardware changes I can make to do so?

The biggest improvement you could make on that system is a SSD. And the price on around 500Gb SSDs is dropping.

Is it possible to build a PC optimized for DCS? Or should DCS be optimized to run better on PCs?

Has anyone found a way to negate the hiccup that happens when bombs/cbus get dropped? This never happened on the Beta DCS A10C and even the earlier release versions. I know because it was one of the best things I liked to do --- to watch my submunitions float down and then watch the ensuing carnage.

Ooh, so they are! Shiny! biggrin I'll definitely be looking into that!

At the time of the build I was reading that not many games made efficient use of hyperthreading, so an i5 with a better clock speed was preferable as compared to an i7.

I've been working on DCS' settings optimization as well. The thing is one of the biggest impacts on frames (view distance) isn't something I'm willing to compromise on... No idea on the CBU frame drop issue, at this point I'm just hoping Edge will fix it.

AKA DCSW 2.0/EDGE/DX11.

DCSW 1.x.x uses an Ancient DX9 Engine that's been repeatedly beefed up with more and more Eye candy, so it tends to get bogged down.

I sure hope you are right Skate! When the game has a hard time giving good draw distance AND stutters whenever a bomb explodes on a training mission, I'm surprised ED/DCS has allowed this situation to last this long.

(For the record, this was on a SU-27 bomb testing mission I did after FC3 came out)

While an SSD will help with load times, and maybe ocasionaly with some stutering. It will do effectively nothing for frame rates.
The best thing you can do to improve your frame rates in present build DCS is to get rid of your SLI configuration, and get a more powerfull GPU.

I would submit that stuttering can be more damaging than low fps, because you can compensate for a low frame rate but stuttering always tends to get me smashed into a mountain or hit by a missile. frown
