Steam: X Rebirth: The Teladi Outpost

I tried it for a bit the other day to see how it ran on the new videocard, and apparently it has improved quite a bit since the last time I tried it (1.22 to 2.2 was the jump, I think).

Probably when it hits 3.0 and the Teladi whatsit is released, I will have another serious go at it. With Elite Dangerous probably hitting gamma at about the same time, it might not happen, but they are different enough games so that I might enjoy them both for what they offer. That said, I've never been too into the empire building side of space sims like X, so we'll see.

If only they'd hire a new voice actor to replace whatsherface copilot. I suppose there will always be a mod to make her stfu.

I think this is another case of "dlc" that's already in the game. Nothing had to download. LOL

Yeah I think it just records that you now own the DLC which will be delivered Dec 2014.

Personally I think it would have been a better PR move if they actually said "we're sorry to those of you who pre-ordered or bought X:Rebirth on release day and were unhappy with our incomplete features, we have been working hard to fix that situation and as a token of our appreciation for your support here is a free DLC..." but so far no apology or acknowledgement of how badly they screwed over the loyal customer base...

Yeah I still hope to play X:Rebirth someday when there are enough patches and mods to actually make playing the story a fun experience minus all the bugs and annoyance, but with all the other better space games to play I'm not exactly waiting to get back to this one and I will never pre-order anything from them again (unless it is free like this one)

In Egosoft's defense, they've put out a series of very good games, moddable games at that, to a large following, on a regular basis, carrying the torch for this genre while the guy behind Elite hasn't.
Braben left the genre 19 years ago to go on to such awesome projects as "Dog's Life, Kinectimals, RollerCoaster Tycoon 3, LostWinds, Kinect Disneyland Adventures, Zoo Tycoon, Coaster Crazy and games based on the Wallace & Gromit franchise."

Egosoft has actually put out games, loyal to the genre they became successful in. This one is flawed, for sure, but at least it's out there, and without a large investment from fans. I checked, but I don't know what I paid for it. I see I spent $59 but bought 3 games out of that. I assume $40.
I've given Elite almost double at $75 and I guess I was drunk to do it so soon. A few years ago I'd never have done that, I've somehow been brainwashed by Greenlights, Mad Crowd Funding and Kickstarters.

So Egosoft has screwed up once, on one game, by not quite giving the fans what they wanted.
Braben screwed up for about 20 years not giving his fans what they wanted, with MANY game releases.

For now, Egosoft is ahead in my book.

I would still buy an Egosoft game after it was released and reviewed positively and serious bugs fixed.

If it was the only space game available I would be more mad, but I have other good games like Elite Dangerous and Starpoint Gemini 2 to keep me busy.

How is this? It looks like the old Starfleet Command games, with the shield arcs.

Haven't had a chance to play long enough to form an opinion, but so far it seems pretty good and like a modern version of Freelancer.

Picked it up on sale based on the reviews and lets play videos, even the Steam forum for it seems pretty happy which is very unusual.

Ugh. Maybe in a year's time X:Stillbirth will be worth buying for $10.

Not with a 40 foot barge pole, will I support this travesty under any price.
