Wow. I didn't realize I felt that way about world events. So nice for someone on the other side of the world to inform me.
I get the "need" for PWEC around here, but I still consider it a disease on our online home. The delete button would do the same job.
Do people go to government conspiracy sites to discuss simming? General gaming? PC hardware? Scifi? No they don't.
How about a nice invitation to go talk on one of those sites instead of housing that crap here?

I like Mace. I like a whole lot of people here. But I don't want to get into politics or religion with anyone that I don't have in front of me.
It just doesn't work. You have to see the person as a human being rather than text on a screen to be able to talk about those topics and be able
to agree to disagree out of mutual respect. Often on the internet, you can learn just a little bit too much about a person you like and you can't
justify it without knowing them in person.
Why can't a PWEC regular start up their own forum for those discussions...away from SimHQ and not referencing it...that people can be referred to instead of having that crap here?
Why we can't have Motorsports here but we CAN have PWEC blows my friggin mind.

+100
Well said I wholeheartedly agree. I understand that people have a right and desire to discuss that stuff, but in my experience those topics are a poison to a gaming community like SimHQ.

Alot of us come from different places, cultures, experiences and never actually see each other in person, so when discussing those subjects with people from different points of view, it's easy for things to be taken the wrong way and spin out of control in a pigpile, ruining the good will.

That's why I stay out of PWEC, nothing against the people who take part in it, but I like to hang out with SimHQ for mature gaming, not arguments about religion, politics, economics which ruin the good gaming feelings... there's plenty of websites for that type of thing already and those discussions take over every commenting section for other websites anyhow. I wish PWEC moved to it's own site, ironic that the motorsports one was the one that moved.

PWEC serves a purpose of keeping controversial subjects off the community board. Without a politics board, because face it stuff happens in the world and people will talk about it, controversial stuff will eventually creep onto the community hall, which I would not want to see.

Most people manage to have passionate debates without becoming abusive, inappropriate or getting their feelings hurt and throwing a tantrum. I think the mods have done a good job keeping things from getting out of hand. I enjoy the section and debating controversial issues with friends from different perspectives. But you have to have a bit of a thick skin and be prepared to defend your arguments. That said, I would not mind much if PWEC was buried deeper and featured less prominently on the SimHQ site.

Examples of where PWEC controversy has "poisoned" the gaming discussion?

Good riddance Mace. Get some meds and a padded room.

I regret posting that. I normally save that behavior for my offline crotchety persona.

Have any of you ever seen Mace in person...do you really believe he exists,,,,,

I have never met Mace in person therefore he does not exist.

He is just a tool that the government made up to make sure you don't see the truth.

You are all so gullible and like to be led on without thinkin

There was some messed up stuff posted in that thread. I've never had a problem with Mace when we played games or talked in CH but it would be hard to look at him in the same light after that.

Take care Mace.

I am not sure what to say. I do find it unfortunate that Mace has left the building as it where.

Alas recent international exploits of the US can be easily manipulated into the endless conspiracy theory's. And anyone is subject to falling into that mess. And you don't have to be a loon or moron to go that way. Pwec can certainly go out there in all sorts of ways. From reading Maces post there about the all to human theme of killing the entire region, well I get where both sides are coming from. And I have to ask myself if some of the kill em all and let God sort em out (this quote may ironically be associated to leaders of the Crusades) vibe plays into that melt down. Just the same, everyone from time to time will for lack of a better term, melt down.

I don't know, but before everyone goes don't let the door hit you on the way out, perhaps some reflection on what might lead to such actions. It totally sucks when you have a panel grilling you with opposing views and could easily lead someone to take an even more opposing view to counter. It ends up not being about the message but all the messengers.
And PWEC could use more folks willing to voice other points of view. This is good and keeps things from becoming 1 or 2 point of views being the only thing put forward.

Unfortunately I have learned the hard way trying to hold a debate deemed controversial and assuming it wont
Turn nasty Is wishful thinking. so I just don't bother anymore I used to enjoy posting topics that challenged The accepted norm on topical issues.

That's really not what happened though.

It was one guy making wild claims, the panel requesting some evidence, and instead of providing even a single link, the guy just just exploded in a fit of rage and ran off. There's no need to sympathize with that.

Do you arbitrarily challenge the accepted norm simply because it's the accepted norm? If so, that's where your problem is. What about cases where the establish norm also happens to be the truth? In those cases, you're challengin truth, in which case you should expect to have your case dismantled.

For all we know his dog was just flatten by a car and his boss just grilled him in the office. And off we go.

The conspiracy thing is an weird pill. Hell, I find many things from ancient astronaut "theory" extremely compelling. And a good argument can be made. Does not mean its right. Or how the conspiracy of 2 shooters for the JFK assassination. Thing is a majority of folks believe that. Hell it might be true! In the case of the US doing a giant conspiracy from 911 to the middle east. Well you can make a case for some massive wonky conspiracy I suppose. It is probably a more logical conclusion than the reality. Which is frankly a bunch of yahoo's with to much power made some epic bad calls that ended up with extremely bad results. Anyone that has worked in the US gov knows it is hard pressed to tie its shoes. biggrin Way beyond what the current generation of US leader is capable of. AND the fact that they're are plenty of morally good folks in the mid and lower levels of government. They would not put up with such insanity.

Just the same... I don't think this is so much about the messages as how they where delivered. and perhaps something is plane bonkers in Maces life looking for an outlet. In short, not everyone is a tuff nut like Hag. biggrin

What gets people so angry is that the world is so damn nice right now and few people wish to believe it. But it is statistically true. Never in human history have we been safer from violence, disease and war. Economically, never before have humans been on average richer, as educated and as well fed. Our infant mortality rate is a fraction of what it was a century ago. Yes, the environment is a big worry, but other than that, we have never had it so good. Some people see that reality and for whatever reason rail against it.

Seems like he's still getting ganged up on even in this thread by the same people that ran him off from the other one.
CH is normally a positive place for general fellowship, which is why its the most popular board on the site. I see people posting more in this thread than in CH in the last 6 months.
Some people are just drawn to conflict and negativity. Those people need their own site to discuss what isn't accepted here. Think of the freedom you'd have!

Well, there was this one time where a user called Mace71 used to post here a lot about games and sims, but now he has left because of the PWEC?

It's divisive, has nothing to do with sims, and the mods delete button would be a better option all round.

It's here because it brings page views, and the ads pay for the site. Let's not be coy about it. PWEC for the longest time used to be a separate site, but now it's not, so people leave. The end. smile

Sorry this is way off topic

I no problem having my opinion shredded in a well informed debate.
Its when people start name calling then I get pissed. the world would be a boring place if we all agreed
But some people have such dominate personalities they simple wont accept any view other then there's
I do try to listen to both sides and then formulate my own view.
We live in a world dominated by media barons who's interests are not always in the best interest of the ordinary Citizen so yes I will question accepted norms on certain issues.
