Any chance of the trackir 4 software being supported by the game?

I have tried to get used to TrackIR 5, and I know there are a lot who have managed with it, but I just can't.

And for the life of me, I can not understand why TrackIR 4 will not work with this game.....

No reason you should not get used to Trackir 5.Why do you feel its different?

I have used both TiR 4 for a long time and now TiR 5, I don't see any difference, except the TiR 5 has a wider field of acquisition and is therefore easier to use... I even use the same profiles as I was already using the TiR 5 software with my TiR 4.

TrackIR 4 hardware works (I used one) , just you need the latest TrackIR software (v5.2.2). That is what we worked on to add support and make it much better performance and sent the code to NaturalPoint. TracKIR 5 software works well.

Maybe get some help on setting it up so you can get used to it. Must be some tutorials on youtube etc.

It's the tracker 4 software that does not work in WOFF. My tracker 4 hardware works fine.

I have never been able to get a profile in trackir 5 that I liked. And I imported my ver 4 profile into it, and it was still not to my liking. I went back to revisit WOFF to see how well the shadows mods worked, and within minutes of flying, I got the nausea that new trackIR pilots sometimes encounter.

I would just prefer to use what I have been using for years now....trackir 4.

For what it's worth, I don't use a monitor. I use a home theater projector and a backlit transparent screen. This way I can sit close to the screen (24inches approx) and not throw a shadow on it. Viewing area is about 4ft by 7ft., so I have to turn my head a lot more than someone using a monitor to cover all the corners. My ver4 profile is pretty accelerated to do this, and I just have not been able to duplicate it in tracker 5.

I'll give it another shot, but would be nice if somehow the tracker 4 worked in the game....

btw...why doesn't it?

Not to sound cheeky, sitting_duck, but most often the reason why older software is not supported is because there is a newer version of it available.

To make an extreme analogy, WOFF does not support Windows 98, even though Win 98 was a perfectly decent operating system...back in 2000. That may not be the best analogy, but it should get my point across.

You have to admit that your setup, while awesome, is not the normal setup of a guy sitting in front of a 24" monitor.

I will offer one suggestion. If I recall correctly, the Track IR 5 hardware has a larger FOV, so you may be able to accomplish the necessary acceleration with that, over your current hardware.

I use TrackIR 4 hardware with the trackIR 5 software. It works great for me, but then again I'm only sitting in front of a 25.5" monitor.

Good luck, I hope you get things sorted out, as WOFF is a blast to play. salute

Sitting_Duck, here is a video where the guy explains how to set up a profile.
He is very detailed (and maybe VERY exhaustive) - let the title not confuse you;
you learn a lot about setting up profiles for ANY sim, I think.

I will also post my own profile to you at CombatAce (can't seem to attach anything here).
Just in case you can use it - no biggie if not. It is for TrackIR 5 software, while I
do still use it on TrackIR 4 hardware - works fine.

Yes I understand all that, but as I explained we had to make code, that takes time. No point in us wasting what little time we have working on old v4 software for the odd person who may prefer it basically. We had v5 SDK sent from Naturalpoint, as that is their latest software that has been out a few years now I believe, , and so we made it work for V5 software so it's for V5 - the latest. Sorry but there it is.

It must be how you are setting it up, something is different, smoothing, or other setting see Olham's post for the tutorial and see if it helps when you try again I am sure it will help. As I say there are plenty of tutorials on youtube I am sure.

I have v4 trackir working fine with V5 software.

Pol. thanks for the explanation.

I have to be honest, I did not know a game had to be "tracker enabled" per say.

so gonna assume if I dragged out my old RB3d, tracker won't work in it....bummer.

EEEEHHHH....wrong answer. TIR4/5 will work in RB3D with a patch that enables Mouse Look. You won't have 6DOF, but you will have pitch/yaw viewing and that completely transforms RB3D.

By the way, I've got a profile where I've added several extra control points to some of the views. I now have a "precise" profile that's "smooth" and fast and one that has a very realistic feel when looking over the side and down. Let me know if you want to try it.

ps, great to type at you again duck!

Seriously? You're playing RB3D with WOFF and ROF out?

I'm an old enthusiast of RB3D(and the original Red Baron from Dynamix!) but geez, the AI in those older games can't hold a candle to the AI in WOFF. Not to mention the graphics!

lol, right back at you.

Most ppl's profiles will not work for me. My screen is 4 x 7. I tried one of Oldham's, and it worked ok in pitch, but in yaw for me to look at my 9 or 3, my head was pretty much turned 45 degrees, and I was looking at the screen out of the corner of my eyes. I know how to adjust the curves...but for some reason, a heavily accelerated curve in tracker 5 does not work as well as it does in tracker 4 (at least not for me)

So, at the risk of getting Pol mad at me, if one day someone figured out this "mouse look" for WOFF, tracker 4 software might work?

You don't need "Mouse Look" in WOFF. It's a simple way of using the mouse's X/Y scanning coordinates to "physically" view pitch/yaw function in TIR4/5 when a game or a patch is only coded using "Mouse Look" to move around in the cockpit.

I'd like to take a look at your profile setup and compare it to an accelerated view with extra control points. My email is on file.
