Estimated price is in. This is probably the final price but they did lower the price of the Phoenix upgrade for the Constellation so who knows what will happen. CIG Ben Lesnick wcloaf Posted: 5:11PM Hey guys - as I promised on the stream this morning: the Reclaimer salvage ship will be available for $350 tomorrow. The price is based on the size and components included in the ship (now locked down!) which you will learn more about tomorrow! But long story short, it's really big. https://forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/182088/reclaimer-pricing/p1

I like the look of it... what I really liked was the video clip of the Retaliator on the "Letter from the Chairman". That Retaliator is a beautiful ship... reminds me of the BOne...

I just can't help finding that business model completely twisted. That they are still coming up with new ships to sell for $350 is ridiculous, it reeks of an unethical and exploitative strategies to extract indecent amount of money from the part of their fanbase with a compulsion to buy everything, ie they exploit "whales" to use the mobile/social gaming terminology and that's not something that I'm impressed with. I wish people could get excited by the future prospect of buying the game in-game as a part of the gameplay, not by shelling out hundreds of $$. Anyway, that's my 2 cents and a rant I've been repressing for a long while now. You need to disassociate sales and marketing from game development. It's not like CIG drop tools when a sale is announced. The game is still being developed regardless. Every single ship will be available in game so all you have to spend is the $40 for the base game and, hey, that gets you a ship too. Besides with $54 million and still growing, why the hell wouldn't you keep doing it? They're a business and if a business strategy works keep doing it. They ain't a charity and doing it for the good of gamers everywhere. As a self employed person myself I should be so luck to think of such a good marketing plan, one that'd earn me millions. Your rant is really without merit as it's just your perception that's twisted.

It boggles my mind people are willing to throw this kinda cash at a game, but still we should all be glad they do since it will make the game only bigger and hopefully better.
Intel i5 2500k // Asus P8P67 // 16GB G.Skill RAM // RX480 8GB // 27" monitor // VKB Black Mamba Mk.III // Warthog Throttle // TFRP Pedals // W7

My problem is not that I think it damages the development, my problem is that I find the ethics questionable, and I'm not the only one to think that additional transactions, DLC, etc which ramp up to ridiculous amounts just to exploit compulsive buyers is a growing problem in the video game industry - there have been many people inside the video game industry calling this practice (ie "whaling") unethical.

Yeah I can see where you're coming from there but you're a bit off the mark again. You can buy the whole game for a relatively small price given the scope of the game - $40 and that includes everything. No locked out content that's DLC, nothing extra that you have to buy for real dollars. All you need is patience. Day one DLC and locked content DLC in general is a different point entirely and one where I'd say that if it wasn't effective it wouldn't continue. But it is effective as the masses still buy DLC for other games. It's a winning business strategy overall and if you're a business, why wouldn't you do the thing that generates profit for you? Ethics? We're not talking sweatshops or near slave labour, not talking worker exploitation or below minimum wage, this is video games we're talking about. It's all commercialism and capitalism at its finest but definitely not unethical.

I'm sure we can all agree that some people have a problem controlling themselves when it comes to spending and I understand that you're saying CIG is taking advantage of that with their 'whaling'.
I look at it like this...
[*]companies make alcoholic beverages, some people enjoy them, some people abuse them and hurt themselves and/or others and it's legal everywhere and encouraged [*]companies make cigarettes and some people enjoy... sorry I can't see how anyone could enjoy that... let's say this is just a horrible case of exploitation and it's legal [*]Vegas Baby! some people enjoy gambling and others destroy themselves/family/friends with it
We're a creative lot, we can, pretty much, ruin ourselves with anything out there...there is an end with CIG though. The game's release will put a halt to ship buying with real money and there's even a cap to the amount of UEE that you can buy after the game launches to keep people from skewing the game's economy. With that in mind, I'm sure we may see a few backers getting the shakes after the game goes live.

Disregarding what any of you may think about this sale.....
Think of this,
I only own one ship (cutlass). Its model is still bugged and not finished from years ago. Its still not implemented into Dogsh1te arena.
I have a loan ship (because of above) That ships model is bugged, and still bugged since god knows when.
And they are selling a new concept ship (that is in art form only) to you for a big chunk of cash.....
Thought provoking ?
I seriously wouldn't have a problem with these sales if they finished old work that has been left untouched for a very very very long time.
My optimism for this game diminishes.

Fair enough but do you think they'll never finish and this is all a scam? Also, as i asked before, you think the devs all drop tools and sit down with the marketing department to think of the next big sale and solely concentrate with Sandi for their next big sale? I would have thought, particularly since this is the SimHQ forums for flight simmers in particular, that patience is pretty much a given for something to be released. We know the true meaning of EDIT: And I think you'll be waiting until next year for your Cutlass to hit AC - it's a multicrew ship with turrets and multicrew ships have only just started the development stage. It will be a while before it hits the masses in a stable form. If you think about what they're trying to achieve with multicrew ships it's pretty challenging. I can't remember any game that tries to do what they're doing that wasn't a on-rails type game for multicrew positions.
