The number of ways this could be done badly by
a hack network are just about infinite in extent.

Spike TV is like the male version of the Oxygen Network so don't expect much.

Just once I'd like Mars to be described without using the word "red."

"Kim Stanley Robinson's Malachite/Blue/Technicolor Mars headed for TV" might rally more interest.

If someone were to make a Venn diagram of "people who read & enjoyed Red Mars" and "people who watch Spike TV" it would consist of two circles very far apart.

I miss TNN. When they turned into Spike they sold out to all kinds of crap programming. Maybe this is a turning point?

TNN is just one of many formerly niche cable networks that changed to be more "mainstream".

I remember reading those novels a decade back. And regardless of what network I can not even remotely think how you could pull off a TV series with that material. Unless your just using the name of the series.

Sol Iv would be an excellent uber geek name for a tv series. Hell a movie as well. biggrin

Then people would pronounce it to rhyme with "olive."

Just like I heard people saying Caprica as if it rhymed with paprika.

I've read them several times, and when I had cable I watched Spike for UFC, CSI reruns, and MXC. smile

Well, you kinda have to, when the other books in the series are "Green Mars" and "Blue Mars."
