I posted this in Panzer's poll thread, but thought it deserved a separate announcement

Just today, Creative Assembly announced a new Rome 2 Emperor's Edition with a new mini-Augustus campaign plus a reworked political system and civil war mechanic along with additional playable factions and units.

The good thing is that all of this will be a free upgrade if one already owns the game. Consequently, if you spot a sale on the current game and buy it, the new edition will be a free upgrade when released.

Here's a link:

This is definitely great news!

Sounds like the Politics/Civil War will now work similar to the way it was in their earlier games, which is good news. I can't understand why they dropped it in Rome 2. This should make me want to give it another try.

Undercarriage lever a bit sticky was it, Sir?

There's no denying that the game has had issues since release and it's the first TW game in history to get some really harsh negative reviews from gaming journalists because of it.

It's taken 14 patches and almost a year for the developers just get the siege A.I. to actually use siege equipment and not resort to throwing holiday sparklers at bronze shielded gates in an effort to burn them down.

The other main complaints have been new game play mechanics that the old time fans hate such as the horrid political system and the late game civil war that results in 14 or more full stacks of high level armies instantly spawning around your capital. Along with a new campaign, these last two issues are supposedly being addressed in the new edition with a revamped political/diplomatic system and civil wars that will result from your own generals revolting and trying to seize power if you don;t keep them under control.

While the developers have never really come out and apologized for the poor initial state Rome 2, this new announcement makes it seem like they are doing their best to repair the damage and restore some faith in the franchise.

I guess only time will tell.

Cheers

They also need to fix the problem of shattered retreating units being able to outrun your confident and victorious units that are trying to chase them down.

That's what your cavalry is for. They can't outrun horses.

Good news for sure, it looks like we are finally getting the Rome 2 that we expected.

However, for Creative Assembly I think the damage may very well have been done. Whatever the next TW game is you can be sure most people will give it a very wide berth on release..... which may have a knock on effect when it comes to patches and expansions being developed.

I will never pre-order one of their games again. It was obvious they were looking at taking this to consoles or why would they take a perfect interface and change it so drastically for Rome 2? Everything in R2 could be done with a controller.

I sworn the same. Alien- Isolation is putting that vow on an ACME rocket and it's prepping a match for igniting the thing.

Soooo hard to resist.

I haven't bought a new game in a while and have been trying the alternative demo of games, playing once and uninstalling as they are bad. Saving myself lots of money.

Well isn't the next one supposed to be pure fantasy anyway? I would give that a wide berth regardless.

Creative Assembly got a license to develop Warhammer stuff from Games Workshop earlier this year, but they haven't announced what the next Total War title will be.

I'm wondering if they'll develop a new engine as Warscape has so far been played 4, won 1, drawn 1, lost 2.
