So, Nick, people who express an opinion that you don't agree with are whiners. huh?
Better expressing an honest opinion in the face of fanboys than being than being a butt-licker, my young boy. So, Brit, people who express an opinion that you don't agree with are fanboys. huh? Nate So Nate, people who express an opinion on another persons opinion who may or may not have expressed an opinion on someone elses opinion that you don't agree with are fanboys, huh? So Mace, you opinion is that Nate's opinion of Brit's opinion of my opinion is in your opinion somewhat opinionated ? Given that Im bracing myself for the big 50 soonish I am glad of the opinion that I am and I quote a "Young Boy". Not the dirty old man I see myself a and therefore in no ones opinion should have an opinion. Well I do so. Knickers to you lot !

Don't sweat it Cobra. Some people just want to hate and will find a way.
I appreciate a good tease and I appreciate seeing the -21 in action. Helps me know it's just around the corner.

So if I interpret your post correctly, my opinion isn't honest because I'm a "fanboy" and anyone who agrees with me is a butt licker? Did I get that right? Hmm..it will really suck for you if this MiG-21 turns out to be the mutt's nuts when it is released huh? BeachAV8R

I really like that paint job a lot.

Well, to be honest, I don't consider unguided rockets or guns separately. For all the Russian birds with the 20 types of rockets or gun pods that can be mounted, I just count those all as "rockets and guns." Likewise slick bombs are slick bombs, regardless of the weight ranges. Now guided missiles I count separately, but only in their variant. So for example I don't count every variant of the Maverick the A-10 carries as a separate weapon, they're all Mavericks. The Su-25T carries a LOT of different AG ordnance, from the Kh-58 to the 29T to the S-25T to the Vikhr to "rockets and guns and slick bombs". The Ka-50 carries a limited range, but it's well suited so Vikhrs and unguided rockets + gun is usually all you need anyway. So if I'm going up against ground targets that don't shoot back I will like trying the 21 out, but its high speed and less robust duplication of systems means I don't go hunting Shilkas or SAMs or even APCs that have laser-guided MGs with it. I almost ran EP out of fuel though..I think he landed with 300 liters..<g> 300L on touchdown, just a hair over 200 by the time I spooled down. There was about 100L of sweat in the cockpit, though. This plane is fun to fly and gorgeous to stare at. We flew close formation for what, a good 45 minutes? Near the end, my flying hand was a little tense from trying to keep position, but I enjoyed every minute of it. Folks can complain about the "stale" terrain all they want, but seeing the snow-topped Caucasus mountains through the broken clouds and scratched canopy of a MiG-21 was mesmerizing.

Is it not the problem with all russian fighters... they are mostly design as pure intercepter (with an option to deliver A2G weapons) - the first "multirole" russian aircraft, i think, is the Su-34 (like the F-16C, F-15E or the F/A-18C/E on US side). Neither the F-15E or Su-34 are multi-role, and one might argue that the hornets aren't either. The MiG-29SM does well as a multi-role equivalent of the F-16, and follows a similarish history. So at the end the mission designer need to find a proper tasks for the MiG-21.....with out having a correct opponent. That's always the case, but really ... MiG-21's and F-15s have clashed in RL.

one might argue that the hornets aren't either. I'm curious to hear that argument. The F/A-18's the only modern aircraft that has ever actually done multi-role; killing an enemy aircraft and then proceding to destroy a ground target in the same mission. So at the end the mission designer need to find a proper tasks for the MiG-21.....with out having a correct opponent. The Bis entered service two years before the F-14, and four years before the F-15. It might be outclassed, but it's certainly not an improper opponent for the majority of aircraft in DCS's library.
Off to greener pastures
