If you had to choose one bird, for instance sparrow, hawk, chicken (hehe) etc... for "Air Force" duties (you can mount mini missiles/bombs etc... lol), which one would you choose as ideal for the job (and why)? I'll keep my personal favorite a secret for now because I want to see what others think as their most logical choice. Any takers?

These United States of America
Cormorant (sometimes given the nickname Coot which is actually the name of a different type of bird)

They can fly. They can dive underwater to catch fish. Therefore they are water and land based. She's the JSF of the bird world serving both Navy and Air force demands. She displays herself proudly as she spreads her oily wings to dry. She is not phased. She does what she needs to do.

I'll go with Asian swiftlets, one of few birds that use echo location so are basically all weather fighters. They could also use SAEH missles.

My choice would be the Mallard Duck. It's one of the fastest birds (interception), very long range (bomber), relatively maneuverable (fighter), it's size allows it to carry a large load, and like Mace's and Coot's choices, it can operate on and under the water (boat and submarine). Imagine an aircraft that can do all of that!

Storm Petrel...
Defends itself by projectile vomiting a mix of fish and stomach acid at their attacker. Probably what I'd be like in a real war zone.

I will go with the 'Satanic Nightjar'. Not too sure about its capabilities but the name alone will strike fear into the enemy.

And for pure comedy I will go for the 'Fluffy-backed tit-babbler' biggrin *It's real, look it up*

This:

Very tough birds, not a lot upsets them. Big strong feet with a hell of a grip, beak that can chew through anything, very intelligent, good problem solvers, persistent and determined to the point of being pig headed, if they want something they are going to get it no matter what you or anybody else says. Extremely well versed in both psychological and sonic warfare.

In fact, after having kept one for over two years now I have no idea how they aren't the dominant species on this planet.

Wait a minute...don't you work on ships? Has a parrot, works on ships....

Do you have an eye patch, wooden leg and say 'Yaaaaar!' a lot?

Yep, work on ships and I have a parrot.

You're not the first to ask about an eye patch and wooden leg wink

Barn swallow.

Fast, aggressive, highly maneuverable, used to long distance deployments.

I'd choose the crow, their intelligence makes up for all their shortcomings.
