I'm with you Widow. It's like wearing a tie when everyone is wearing suits tagTaken2, it shows ones individuality. It also makes it easier to spot someone's post.

I turn all that off, if it is an option. All the sigs, gifs and PC stats just take up screen space, and to be honest, some of them make me think less of the poster. To contine the clothes metaphor, some sigs make me notice the guy has pissed his suit.

Lol, just remembered I've used on in the past.

No idea about the technical effort and problems avatars might cause,
but if I ever missed ONE avatar here definitely, it is yours, Widow.
I didn't know who that was, when I first saw the photo.

And I still remember how I first met you in the other place.
You had sent a good rant, we exchanged some posts, and you ended
it all with that famous "Woof, woof!"
Only later I saw that TV series, and Lord Flashheart's impersonation
of a narcistic WW1 ace, but by then he had already become you. biggrin

Yuppers I agree, an avatar and a sig block photo and a download section for WOFF files would all be excellent things to have in a forum and ... oh wait ... we already have all those things, just not here. winkngrin

psssst, hey buddy, check this out ... CA WOFF Forums

If you already have those things at CA, Lou, why the want to have them here, too? Just go to CA. I just timed it, took me twelve seconds to open another window and reach CA's download section. And that included scrolling over to click the clock, twice. The WOFF forum there is as dead as Kelsey's nuts, but CA is useful for the downloads.

Jim, that strikes me a little like saying if you already have a bathroom in your house in town why do you want one in your cottage at the lake. It would be pleasant to have the same niceties at both I think, but then maybe that's just me. Don't get me wrong, I could use the outhouse, (and have), it's just that indoor plumbing is so much better.

I go to both foræ(!) every day and post PM's there and here. I have no idea why we switched to this place. I like CombatAce. AFAIK this is the only forum in the world that doesn't allow avatars.

I only use foræ to annoy those who did Latin at skool scuseme

There is a useful piece of free tiny software called 'Allchars'. Download it here: http://allchars.zwolnet.com/

It means that it is easy to get my wife's name right which is Béatrice and even old Hermann gets his surname as Göring and not Goering which is acceptable but not correct. It also means I can write 1½ Strutter!

Strange that although the WOFF web page points to this forum they do like to show that CombatAce gave WOFF the editor's choice in 2014. I do prefer the CombatAce forum - the pilot maps done by Olham are there, for one thing.
