I have no idea what those little cars are but the speeds they were going and the drift they seem to have it didn't look like he could do much about it. He shouldn't have been on the track though in the first place.

Why the **** was he on the track in the first place! My question, too. He had no business being there, he should have went over the wall or just stayed at his car till someone came to get him. It was dark, the cars have no lights, peripheral vision is extremely poor with a full-face helmet, and he was walking around in the midst of fast cars while wearing dark coveralls. Recipe for disaster, there.

How would anyone be able to tell from the other side of the track which car is revving? You are not supposed to get out of the car, those are rules for safety that he ignored. Ward basically jumped in front of a car doing 50 mph expecting him to stop, sorry it really isn't Tony's fault and I can see this ending up in PWEC real quick because every Race Fan is going to have a go at who is at fault.

I'd say it stretches credulity just a little bit to say Stewart intentionally ran Ward down. But The Sporting News got a real attention-getting story, and that's what it's all about.

The video overlay can be closed. Click the gear icon and then turn annotations off.
A terrible decision by the crashed driver, tragic outcome.

The race was under caution, there is no need to hit your throttle. The car that revved fishtailed. I don't know if they use spotters at short dirt tracks, but if the do, the conversation will be very interesting to hear. Tony's done it before himself [video:youtube] http://youtu.be/wwc8obMmv7o?t=1m[/video] it's actually pretty common after a crash.
