So i open the skin i want to edit from the ac1 folder. Load it in DXTbmp and send it to the gimp. Paste in my edits, save as a .bmp (16 bits R5 G5 B5). Open the exported .bmp with DXTbmp and save it as .dds DXT1. I can see my skin in the sim, but when i load it up it looks the same as the default skin i started from.

Where did i go wrong???

MACHINE GUN FIRE: CAMBRIN by ROBERT GRAVES (September 25 1915)

The torn line wavers, breaks, and falls. 'Get up, come on!' the captain calls 'Get up, the Welsh, and on we go!' (Christ, that my lads should fail me so!) A dying boy grinned up and said: 'The whole damned company, sir; it's dead.' 'Come on! Cowards!' bawled the captain, then Fell killed, among his writhing men.

You need to save any skins you want to use into thie following folder:

OBD Software > WOFF > OBDWW1 Over Flanders fields > campaigns > CampaignData > skins

You were in the wrong folder.

The skin is there. I renamed it as well, and it shows up in the skin selection, but when i load a mission my edits don't show up.

samba_liten, be sure to name the skin in the same fashion that other skins in WOFF are named. For example: Off_FokkerEIII_ace_t_Jasta 10 1916_Max_Immelmann.dds

I have found that if you do not have the 'ace' tag in there it will not show up in the sim when you pick it.

Yes, I assumed as much, but did you name your skin as per my advise in the previous post?

samba_liten, I just noticed you are saving to 16 bit BMP, I have always saved to 24 bit. Not sure if this is the issue but you might want to check that.

It is saved as a .dds file. If i type .dds into the file name the game crashes when i try to load it.

I'll try again with the file name and a 24bit save.

Yes, you wouldn't want to actually type .dds into the window when picking the skin, I only meant that in the the 'skins' folder it should be showing as a .dds file.

Samba, best is to get a default file from the folder I named above.
With a free program like IRFANVIEW you save it as a BMP file (file type (BMP - Windows bitmap).
With this you can work now, but don't change it's size.
When you are ready, you must save it as a DDS-1 file (no alpha),
and put it into the skins folder.

Name it correctly - an Albatros D.III (OAW) skin cannot be selected, when you fly an Albatros D.III early.
And maybe you add your name at the end, after the year, so you find it.

What? What's that you say? Drinks are on you? Excellent! A pinta' stout for me then.

cheers

Skinners of WOFF unite!

Tune: My Bonnie lies over the ocean

A poor aviator lay dying
At the end of a bright summer’s day
His comrades had gathered about him
To carry his fragments away

The airplane was piled on his wishbone
His Hotchkiss was wrapped round his head
He wore a spark-plug on each elbow
‘Twas plain he would shortly be dead

He spit out a valve and a gasket
And stirred in the sump where he lay
And then to his wondering comrades
These brave parting words he did say

“Take the magneto out of my stomach,
And the butterfly valve off my neck
Extract from my liver the crankshaft,
There are lots of good parts in this wreck”

“Take the manifold out of my larynx,
And the cylinders out of my brain,
Take the piston rods out of my kidneys,
And assemble the engine again.”

Pull the longeron out of my backbone,
The turnbuckle out of my ear (my ear).
From the small of my back take the rudder-
There’s all of your aeroplane here.

I’ll be riding a cloud in the morning,
With no rotary before me to cuss (to cuss).
Take the lead from your feet and get busy,
Here’s another lad needing the bus!
