I have no idea why the devs seem set against these views. Such a beautiful sim.
Immersion breaking, and potential for abuse, however they're working on something from what I picked up in the Twitch stream.

Considering the potential for a whole lot of abuse I'd like to see it disabled when in combat. Flying by yourself in deep space is no big deal.

They are considering external camera drone, though.
What I've heard. I would be totally fine with pressing a button that takes a "virtual picture" of the surroundings and store it. When I dock I can see it, as in a 3D reconstruction of the instant it was taken. Kind of like something I've seen in Gran Turismo 4. Photo mode, just instead of setting things up, you save the setting of your ship in a "bubble" around you. *Groan* Please tell me what I wrote has any *ANY* sense...

Yes, I would be happy with that but not with an external view that can be used whilst in combat but even if they make one that is only used outside of combat the tards will find some way of abusing it.

Yep, as I said- you can only see it when you are docked in a station.

Interesting idea. I know I-war had some scan/espionage bits.

From a marketing standpoint - the lack of external view and flyby is horrible.

If you buy or don't buy based on whether you can see your ship from the outside or not then people need to give their heads a shake...
If they have some way of explaining why we can see outside then it will work but 'just happens' won't cut it.

Actually I bought this game BECAUSE it had no external view. I always liked playing locked cockpit game modes in Warthunder and IL2 and after seeing Star Citizen go 3rd person view I wanted something a little more hardcore and Elite seems to fit that bill.

If they have some way of explaining why we can see outside then it will work but 'just happens' won't cut it. It doesn't matter if it is realistic or not. I'm just saying from a marketing stand-point (selling games by visual marketing), the lack of the feature (realistic or not) doesn't help them. Some of my favorite DCS moments are on servers with no external views allowed. But outside views help sell games. It's just the nature of the way people buy things.. BeachAV8R
