So any tips for outfitting my Solenopsis II (I would love to see giving our ships names ingame)

I've found much easier to earn big chunk of moolah by stripping the ship of everything.

I kid you not.
Not a weapon, not a defensive subsystem.

This, of course, forces you to play a Brave Sir Robin EVERY time something could happen.
But with no added mass, your jumpdrive reach farther...

In one night I went from 20K to a Viper. Just to speak.

Just bring resonant separators from Asellus Primus to Dahan.

Ka-ching.

Outfitting - honestly, just keep it the way it is until you get enough to get either the Type-6 or Cobra III.

Do the Fish <-> Agro med/Terrain Enrichment run between IBootis (Chango Station) and Aulin Enterprises.

Personally I've been running the Hauler ever since my anarchy system get rich quick scheme ended up with me owning a ship blown to pieces. Trading has been slow, so Pandora has been my friend while space trucking. Honestly all I really need now is a confederate flag or general lee paint job and fuzzy dice for the windshield. Here's a few tunes to get you started

Any extra equipment adds weight, which in turns puts more stress on the engine thereby reducing range, you probably noticed that from just buying cargo. Later on, sometime during beta we will see more equipment such as bigger engines to compensate, but they will have extra costs.

As for names, well it will be more than just a name.

Nice to see so many more people pick it up smile.

Just bin the gun on the Hauler as it will do you no good. If you are in a situation where you need to fire in a Hauler you aren't flying it right as you should be turning and burning. I had one and never even deployed the gun.

As I had to start again after my Cobra was destroyed and didn't have the insurance I am almost ready to get the Hauler again and the gun will be taken off immediately.

Yeah, I run my hauler stripped down to the bones, too. You don't want to fight in this thing, you want to run!

@ Penguin: THX for the hint on ship-names, sounds promising!

They are but the chances of you happening onto a head-on situation where a single laser is going to save your bacon is the same as winning the lottery. The extended hyperspace range is much more useful.

Eh, I've taken down Eagles and Sidewinders with that single laser on the Hauler.

anywyas, in the beta the larger range isn't that useful, we only have 36 systems to visit right now smile

It seems like a lot when I'm so used to the Eagle! That dang thing can only make the central 6 or so systems.

Eurrrh, IIRC- no. You Don't.

It has some nice scenes- but that's it.
It IS just as bad as Spaceballs without the comedy.

Hah yeah it's pretty terrible looking.

I swapped the Hauler out for a Viper last night. The shields are a bit weak and the frameshift drive takes awhile to recharge but damn if that thing isn't fast and armed as all hell. I wish I would have saved up more money to buy upgrades and extra multicannons for the thing.

So what are the multi-cannons like? I guess they'd be good on the Viper so you could put all pips in shields as the cannons don't overheat. The devs saying the shields getting beefed up is good news as right now they're crap for a fighter.
