Have they finally gotten it stable on modern Nvidia cards and windows 7 64 bit? Last time I tried with 5.5something it was still unplayable.
You do know that's a nVidia/Win7 driver problem and not FF fault? Lucky for nVidia users there is a workaround.
OK, I'm listening... I'd love to do a workaround that makes FF5 stable on W7 with nVidia cards.
1. Use 260.xxx driver
2. Use the Nvidia Control Panel - Manage 3D Settings to create a profile for FFViper.exe and then save & quit.
3. Start Nvidia Inspector v1.92 in advance mode (press little screwdriver and wrench symbol beside Driver Version)
4. Select the ffviper.exe profile from the drop down menu in the top left corner.
5. Select Scan Profiles for Unknown Settings and Values (little magnifying glass over gears symbol near top right)
6. Scroll down the sub-headings to Unknown - Find PRE_D3D9_COMPATIBILITY_BITS and go to the right of it and click - then select (King's Bounty, X2: Wolverine's Revenge, Independence War 2 - Edge of Chaos, Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, MS Flight Simulator X, Links 2003, Gothic 2, Gothic 1)
7. Apply the Profile with Nvidia Inspector.
or... Using nVidia Control Panel...
1. update driver up to 260.xxx
2. rename FFviper.exe to FalconAF.exe
3. open NVidia control and ''add'' FalconAF.exe profile
4. apply changes/save
