Also wrote Man of Steel, which I liked a lot.
Didn't like the last 2 Batman movies, but Batman Begins was extremely good.

I thought David Goyer wrote Man of Steel?

The premise looks a bit too "we're destroying the earth ahhhhhhhh!" For my tastes.

Not very curious but instead I am surprised! Mr. Thorne is one of the best experts in regards to bending space-time topics (a.k.a. Black Holes)! This at least makes me feel that the movie has some science facts and theories behind it. I am definitely looking forward on watching it!

Curious, in that producers are usually the people who
put up the money. I kinda don't think GR profs are
exactly pulling down the big bucks. One would presume
that he had a lot of input into the modelling of
the appearance of the effects of the drive system.
Some sort of permutation on an Alcubierre, I presume.

The term "producer" in film and television is about as nebulous as it gets. There are people who get producing credits that range from doing absolutely nothing, to writing, to financing, to serving as directors in 2nd units, to being involved in story, casting, and all aspects of production.

It's literally become meaningless. At least "written by", "story by," and "directed by" still are concrete (relatively).

The same can be said of 2001 as well. I didn't read Contact, but endings like that aren't easy to put in movies.

Exactly, i don't remember any other movie that got me so well hooked and ended up as huge disapointment because of the end. And by "end" i mean the contact it self talking to "the father". That part was too fantastic and felt like stupid.

I'm of the opposite opinion. I think the film was more interesting because Kubrick decided to keep so much of the story a mystery while in the book Clarke sought to explain quite a bit of what was going on.

I think they lost the audience some with 5 minutes of trippy effects rather than showing the switching station described in the book. Becoming the Star Baby part was fine though.
Since the movie had to stand on its own, at least at the time, I think sticking to the book would have made more sense. Even if they just cut that groovy sequence down to 5 seconds it would have been better.

In 1970 five minutes of trippy visual effects was
a big selling point, substantially increased the
draw of the movie.
