This would make a good topic for a different post though. Who is brave enough to start it?

Thing is Star Citizen has had micro-transactions (not micro priced though!) from the beginning - buying ships! And if that's not pay to win I don't know what is. I really cannot see FD selling anything that will alter performance or be pay to win though.

Pay to win what exactly? It's a sandbox...

Big ship with more powerful guns and faster engines?! You buy that with real money, not in game earned currency and someone doesn't, you've paid to win...

ED sold cheaper ship insurance that puts them in exactly the same ballpark as SC. Now they are selling skins and next they will probably sell something else closer to P2W territory. I personally dont care. They have to make money or they go under but it is funny to see everyone defend ED and criticize SC when they are both doing the exact same thing. (and dont forget ED already sold ships, starting locations and starting money just like SC did.)

NOthing stops you from getting the same ship, just a little later using in-game resources.

"Pay to win" is frankly when you have something only available for $$ which is super-better than anything you can get in-game via nonpaying resources. Like how gold ammo in World of Tanks used to be, or the premium tanks.

As I'll not be doing much PvPing in SC, I couldn't care less if someone can speed up their acquisition of a cool ship, as long as I can get the same in 1 year if I want.

Same with ED - pay enough and you start with a better ship, that is just as much "pay to win" as SC is.

Nope.
Time to get some fact straight.

Insurance is 50% off only for the initial Alpha backers, it is apparently something selectable (players can choose not to use it) and it wasn't for sale.
Was a gift given by Frontier without anyone asking. It is a mistake from my point of view but if we consider that there are around only 2000 alpha players... I still think it's unimportant.

Skin sale was a big big topic for a long time (at least 8 to 10 months) and it has been stated, sworn and confirmed that only cosmetics will be up for sale. As everyone knows they still have to make money, but there will be stuff earn-able with in game currency too...

Ships and starting locations has only been up for sale for less than a year. Only for kickstarter and the immediate thereafter mainly becausr the number of people who found out about Elite wad very limited to begin with.
SC is not giving any sign of quitting the crowdfunding.

Ther must be a reason SC collected over 50 Mil (and it's not stopping) while ED just crowdfunded a tenth of that. The rest is a mix of FD savings and stock market funds.

They are not the same. Whether You like it or not.

And these are facts.

They sold it, doesnt matter for how long they sold it or to who they sold it they still sold it. That is the exact same ballfield as SC in my opinion.

Nope, pay to win can be buying something at the get-go which is vastly superior to what you would get as a bog standard starting craft/vehicle/gun etc. I start in an Aurora that comes with the base game and you in a Constellation that you bought with real money and I think you will win. You paid and you won.

The equation Time=Money works also backwards. Whatever saves you time is gold...

I´m sorry Master, but there´s a thing nagging me.

ED and SC are not in the same ballpark when it comes to paying for content.

Now let´s drop the ball and keep on speculating on the newsletter.

Interesting development on the Elite app. Would make preying on halpless freighters interesting if they have friends.

Good to hear that we're getting truck stops, that'll be great for deeper space exploration!
