I am going out to Lake Placid in August to help a buddy of mine with some work, and while doing research for cool stuff to do I found the website for Rhinebeck Aerodrome. It looks like a cool living museum and so I was wondering if any SimHQers had been or had heard anything about it. Thanks for any reviews.

Yes. Was there 2 years ago. Very cool place. You can really wander around and go in hangars and right up to the planes. Nice to see the planes open and see the internal construction. They have some really old stuff that they fly. It's on my do again list. Be prepared to spend the whole day.

First time in a biplane for me. Take a pair of goggles if you go.

I have some pictures from there if anyone is interested.

OG I'm interested to see your pictures. I've never heard of the Rhinebeck Aerodrome before.

X2, please do post those pictures. Have watched many special documentaries about the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome.

Great place. I was able to visit recently while on a work trip. There was no flying going on that day though. The museum is worth seeing, although a little rough around the edges. There are some very interesting and unusual airplanes there.

Here are a few shots from my iPhone..

If you are interested in American history at all, on your way to Lake Placid, there is Lake George with Fort William Henry (where The "Last of the Mohicans" actually took place). Also Fort Ticonderoga. Don't forget to stop in the Olympic Center in Lake Placid where the "Miracle on Ice" took place during the 1980 Winter Olympics

It is going to be a couple days before I can post pictures. The one posted by Paul Rix and Lucky are good and I won't post others of the same.

I'm from New York and used to drive up there every summer. Haven't been there in decades but I'm glad to see its' still in operation.

Really enjoyed my first visit. It was during the week. Would like to get back sometime when they're flying some of the old stuff.

Oh yeah. You want to go on a weekend. That's when they put on the air shows. At least they used to. I remember the cheesy, humorous, routine they would do. You'd see The Black Baron (played by Cole Palen, who owned the place) run into the outhouse set up nearby. An Avro 504 comes by and drops a bomb on it and the outhouse blows up and the Black Baron comes out pulling up his pants and shaking his fist at the dirty Englander.
He jumps in to the Fokker Triplane and chases the Avro. Along comes our hero in the Sopwith Pup and after a rousing tail chase, the Tripe goes down behind some trees. I've got old pictures of it all and I'll dig em up. If for no other reason than to show you that the place doesn't seem to have changed at all.

Awesome, thanks for the feedback and the pics. I will definitely have get there. As for the forts, I went to them when I was a kid (my grandparents live in the Utica area) but I would probably get more out of them as an adult.
