The operation begins with recon crossing the canal.
SS_16_29_13 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

As the recon generates contacts for the artillery the picture becomes clearer and clearer as to enemy dispositions in the area. With this the assault itself begins with amphibious vehicles from the first battalion making the first crossing under fire from enemy artillery
SS_16_47_51 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

Enemy artillery isn't the only artillery in the fight, ours is pounding one of the enemy strong points covering the canal as the first battalion starts surging across it.
SS_16_56_52 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

At one of the first objectives, the closest to the crossing point we are facing resistance, with both sides causing damage.
SS_16_59_38 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

While this happens the infantry begins their assault on the southern strong point.
SS_17_04_05 by WarSimShots, on Flickr
SS_17_07_12 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

Though despite this the first objective, a small village is still contested.
SS_17_11_22 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

While the fighting continues along the canal zone the forward recon makes contact with an enemy strong point on the way towards the rear most objective.
SS_17_14_48 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

At the same time the final assault on the southern enemy strong point is starting to wind down with only a small enemy force left.
SS_17_18_47 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

While the enemy strong point is almost taken the objective nearest the crossing point is still putting up fierce resistance which in total losses to us eats up nearly a company.
SS_17_24_09 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

While the fighting still rages across the canal in the enemy strong points and in our objectives our second wave appears and starts the crossing under fire.
SS_17_28_31 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

The assault an hour and a half into the crossing.
SS_17_29_35 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

The crossing of the last elements of the assault group happens with some losses due to artillery...
SS_17_31_44 by WarSimShots, on Flickr
and is also slowed down by it due to bracketing by the enemy of the crossing point...
SS_17_39_25 by WarSimShots, on Flickr
but the crossing happens despite the will of the enemy in resisting us.
SS_17_38_26 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

The second battalion is ordered to assault the northern strong point, while this is happening the enemy starts a counter attack to blunt our advance and perhaps contest our southern objective.
SS_17_51_42 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

The attack turns out to be quite heavy
SS_17_54_26 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

Our response is artillery fire on the road the enemy is advancing down.
SS_18_01_17 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

The artillery however doesn't slow the enemy advance.
SS_18_04_40 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

ATGMs and artillery do blunt the enemy advance.
SS_18_06_38 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

First battalion starts mopping up survivors from the enemy force.
SS_18_17_08 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

Along with elements of second battalion hitting the enemy in the flank.
SS_18_18_53 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

Though another surprise appears, enemy tanks heading down the road.
SS_18_22_41 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

Lots of enemy tanks.
SS_18_24_46 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

Which promptly start taking the flanking force under fire.
SS_18_27_35 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

While this happens ATGMs start getting set up to counter the tank assault down the road.
SS_18_31_17 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

But they start turning off the road
SS_18_31_43 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

And start heading towards the northern strong point or the crossing point. At this point its unclear which.
SS_18_33_22 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

They start heading west towards the crossing point and just south of my company's ATGM section.
SS_18_42_25 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

The teams see the tanks and start firing, but miss due to the rolling terrain masking the tanks.
SS_18_42_30 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

The tanks start charging towards E company
SS_18_43_38 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

But get engaged despite the rolling terrain.
SS_18_44_52 by WarSimShots, on Flickr
SS_18_45_48 by WarSimShots, on Flickr

And the counter attack is stopped. We decide to dig in and wait for more days of counter attacks. The crossing is successful.
