While stationed at Wheeler AAF Hawaii one of the AH-1F Cobras in my unit went down with loss of both crew members.
I knew both of them, but wasn't close. Anyway i was looking up the Cobra on static display by the front gate of Wheeler AAF which has a plaque with the crew members name on it.

Scroll to this picture (Bell AH-1S Cobra Helicopter (Serial No. 68-15036)
http://silverhawkauthor.com/warplane-survivors-usa-hawaii_297.html

I remember the last three numbers as being the Cobra that went down while at Wheeler (Top crew here 25th ID)

Further Google searches of AH-1 Cobra (Serial No. 68-15036) revealed it was also at the Mildenhall Air Fete in 1985 in the U.K. (Scroll to additional info)

So looking up Mildenhall Air Fete 1985 through Google i find the real 68-15036 which is as we know now destroyed.

PS...according to my Father and fuzzy recollection i went to the Mildenhall Air Fete in '85......

I'm not sure you "Found" that so much as zeroed in on it like a laser guided Columbo shot out of a Sherlock launcher. Cool stuff!

Why did the Cobra have two different style canopies? One was flat and the other was rounded.

I think the original was rounded for aerodynamics, but the Army put the flat one on it which I think reduced reflections and was armored. The Marines stuck with the rounded canopy.

I don't think armored glass is ever rounded. I can't recall seeing it anywhere.

The flat plate canopies were not armored glass either. Change to flat plate canopy was to reduce 'glint' light reflection signature.
