Currently I'm playing IL2 1946 patched to version 4.12.2 with SAS Modact 5.3 and Asura's Dgen mod where I started a US Navy bomber campaign (Stock Dgen) where I just ended the Midway campaign but to my dismay both the Midway and Coral Sea campaign were a major disappointment because of the following reasons:
- The vast majority of missions were either Submarine Recon, Submarine Strike and pilot "rescue" (which basically are the same, the difference is that the first two have Submarines and the third no).
- Between both Midway and Coral Sea campaigns only one Carrier Strike mission was spawned (in the Coral Sea campaign and none in Midway) and two Carrier recon missions were spawned (one in Coral Sea and another in Midway).
- Besides in the Carrier Strike and Recon missions the enemy carriers appeared alone without any escorts (no proper carrier group only unescorted carriers).

The main reason why I installed and play IL2 1946 is because I'm eager to play as a USN bomber pilot mainly during Carrier Battles.

So what I'm asking here is if there is any good carrier battle campaigns (such as Midway and Coral Sea) out there?

Thanks in advance for replies...

ricunes,

Look here for single mission sets of those battles. Some are fighter and some bomber. All are pretty historically accurate. These are not meant to be arcade-type missions but well researched following most the pacific campaign.

http://www.vfa-41.net/PF_Missions.php

Email me at lee61156@aol.com if you have questions. I recently flew the Pearl Harbor to Midway and Guadalcanal sets and made afew minor revisions. So email me if you want the absolute latest sets.

Hi Major Dragon,

Thanks very much for your reply.

Actually I was looking more into careers/campaigns and not so much into single player missions which is what's available in your link, right?
Anyway, I'll certainly look into those single player missions since some of them look great indeed!

Ric,

try True Pacific; I know its author as one of the most competent PTO campaign makers. It's a DGen career, as you're looking for.

Cheers,
GB

Hi Greybeard,

That's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks for the link.

Unfortunally, some of the sub-campaigns of that career aren't working (where pressing the generate button, nothing happens). This happens wit the following sub-campaigns:
- Bougainville
- Coral Sea
- Guadalcanal
- Eastern Solomons
- Wake (1943)

The remaining sub-campaigns do seem do work. Am I doing something wrong or is there any sort of bug?

Hi Ric,

I'm so sorry!

From a glance I gave to first issue you pointed out (Bougainville), I see that DB file called by campaign (CoralSeaSolomonSeabmb) does not exist! Similar ones included are CoralSeaSolomonSea and CoralSeaSolomonSea1; they call for different "ops" files, where the former features scrambles and interceptions whilst the latter includes submarine recognition.

I guess other issues you mentioned are caused by same kind of mismatches.

I would suggest you to try sending a PM on this same forum to Nimits.

Yes, I also noticed that some files (such as "CoralSeaSolomonSeabmb" that you mentioned) seems to be missing so no wonder why some campaigns fail to load.

For now I installed DBW and I'll try the following campaign (using DCG and made for DBW):
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=26232.0

Seems to be what I'm looking for, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

True Pacific 0.09 may have the fixes you need for the campaign to generate properly?

The little time I do have for Pacific Fighters campaign building I spend on DCG, which I have found (meaning no disrespect to Starshoy) to be a better and better supported campaign generator, and frankly is the one that should have been chosen for Forgotten Battles and Pacific Fighters.

I never tried DBW (too big download for me) and was unable to understand the DCG, but both have success and fans, so your premises look good. I make you my best wishes to have fun!

This was released yesterday: "PEARL HARBOR - TOKYO" Ultimate dynamic campaign for HSFX 7.02
http://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php?topic=41494.0

At m4t there are some good PTO mission packs and campaigns (no mods required):

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

That "PEARL HARBOR - TOKYO" campaign pack certainly looks great but unfortunally it's made for HSFX and unfortunaly I don't like HSFX very much because ships such as Japanese destroyers are too resistant to bombs, a thing that may not matter much for Eastern European Front or even Western European front campaigns but certainly matters (to me, at least) for Pacific campaigns. Nevertheless I'll keep a close look into that campaign.

I also want to thanks all other suggestions, of course.

Interesting, never noticed that myself, and we do a lot of Pac campaigning. In fact we are starting a new one now so we will keep an eye out for it.

I thought I had found every campaign in every nook and cranny of Mission4Today, but I didn't have this one. When I click on the link above you can't see the full path on Mission4Today. If I were to start at the Download Center and drill down, where would I find the above campaign...there may be more I'm missing eek

Thanks! smile2

Those files are actually in the Single Player mission area of the downloads. Not sure if it is a campaign that was uploaded to the incorrect area or several single missions packed together?

You can look for other similar missions in the Single Player Missions area by searching here.

I think 0.08 was meant to be installed over the previous version(s), so that may be the problem.

0.09 was the last version I did before I gave up on DGen (to many bugs in the mission generation), and Enjoyr fixed a few things when he released True Pacific as part of his campaign pack. If you really wanted to use dTRue Pacific, I'd recommend his pack.

That said, I've not touched that for half a decade, probably much better stuff out there now.

I might just re-install IL-2 for this! It looks like what Pacific Fighters should have been!
