The patent office tried the same thing in 1999 by canceling the Redskin's copyright and it was overturned on appeal. The same thing will happen here. The government can not force a business to change it's name, only the consumer can by not buying product etc. One hopes. But constant unwarranted legal badgering puts a financial strain on the private owner. The government's pockets run deep with pilfered cash and often what the Government wants it will get by any means.

I'm offended by New England Patriots minuteman logo as I was Redcoat in the so called 'War of Independence' and I never saw them play football once!

something that needs to be considered.. Because many black folks use the N word as a term of endearment makes it no less offensive.. Same thing with this.. Just like Braves might not be analogous to redskins, redskins is not really analogous to the N word. Where as the N word is clearly still seen as offensive in mainstream society, the term Redskins has almost, if not completely, taken on a single meaning as simply the name of an NFL team. The N word was also used as a direct derogatory slur throughout history where as redskins has a more clouded history. There are examples in the 18th/19th centuries of tribes using words to describe themselves that translated to "red skins" in English. Native Americans using different iterations of white man to describe caucasians was common as well. Neither was necessarily derogatory to do on it's face. I've never once heard the term redskins used as a derogatory term. That's not to say it never has been in history, but I don't think it's used in society today as anything other then a team name. It's a unique situation.
