This may be old news...
I came across a game blog featuring the PC game Ultimate General: Gettysburg being developed by a Total War game modder called Darthmods (I never played TW so the developer and his mods are not known to me).

Going by the interviews, game description, and images I have put UGG on my "to watch" list. cowboy

Main Features

Take Command - Fight the Battle of Gettysburg as a Union or Confederate general and attempt to rewrite history through a chain of historical and what if battle scenarios.

Dynamic Progress - Your performance in battles affects future missions. Losing too many soldiers in your first encounter will drastically change the last days of your battle.

Easy controls - Deep tactical gameplay driven by simple controls. Give orders to hundreds of troops organised in brigades of infantry, cavalry and artillery.

Thinking Soldiers - Units can retaliate and defend themselves without player input and excessive micromanagement, giving you the freedom to focus on other more important strategic matters.

Realistic Morale - One of the most complex morale systems ever created makes your tactical decisions crucial on the battlefield demoralised troops become irresponsive, devastating volleys cause havoc in your lines, flank attacks can rout your strongest units.

Terrain Advantage - High ground provides increased weapon ranges, accuracy and morale bonuses. He, who takes the hills, wins the battle.

Challenge - AI does not need traditional game cheats or hidden tricks to face off against humans. Innovative Ultimate General AI comes with different characters such as "Careless", "Indecisive", Defensive, Cautious, Cunning, Aggressive or Dynamic.

Looks to be interesting, though from the concept shot, it appears the brigade (rather than the regiment) will be the basic maneuver unit . . . arguably not the best choice for the ACW. I am curious what it is going to do different/batter from TC/SOW (or Sid Meier's Gettysburg, for that matter). . .

Not a huge Civil War gamer, myself, but I agree that the game looks beautiful so far. I enjoyed the write up about their graphical direction.

Has any one who has it, have any thoughts on how it is, and is it a worth while download at this moment in time?

I was just coming here to post about this as I had just seen Tigerwulf had bought it and I hadn't heard of it but it looks great. Read the first post in the thread and if Darthmod is the dev then I will trust it as being good as I love their mods.

Found this video and it looks fantastic.

Just watched the videos, and looks like a great game! Can't wait to get my hands on it.

All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for? Breakfast in bed? Another glorious day in the corps! A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm. Every meal's a banquet! Every paycheck a fortune! Every formation a parade! I LOVE the corps!

Wow! Looks very nice.( Thanks for posting the vid MACE, very helpful )

I really like the look of the stylized graphics, which I think works very nicely in portraying the essence of the battle, striking a nice balance by not trying to represent every last man or going to the other extreme and having just a couple of units representing a brigade.

Ooooh I'm tempted...

I have to admit the video does not impress me as being very representative of Civil War era combat. The scale of units is wrong (making brigades the maneuver unit for infantry), and the range scale just seems off, visually. I realize some of that is due to the stylized graphics, but so far I am not seeing a big reason to chose this over the SOW series.

Youre right it has not the depth of the SoW series but it hat a few things i like. It has a challenging AI and its just 10,- bucks!
Anyone who liked Sid Meiers Civil War games will like UGG!

Just bought it (cheap, support the developers) but didn't yet get to play it.

Looks to me like the kind of game where scale and pace are meant to have the game play fast, focusing on decisions and their effects rather than the second to second combat between two units.
