After installing the new update, I was presented with a fatal problem after hitting the main executable:

"Unable to open file GRAPHICS\UI\COMMON\POINTER.RGB during convert _psd_to_Rgb"

I suspect this relates to some file in a main folder either in subfolders "chokum" or "common" which requires a modification. I do not know what and how to modify the program so that a launch will proceed.

HELP!

I'm not familiar with that error. But I need to ask. Which version were you running before installing the new update ?

( I assume you're speaking about installing the newest update ... version 1.15.2 )

I've read that if installing v1.15.2 , it is necessary to already have v1.15.0 installed.
___Also , you must reinstall EECH from scratch first before installing v1.15.0

Installation procedure

I think about the same. You can follow latest install instructions (if you have no EEAH start with paragraph 5), maybe you just forget about something.

Hello,

I would to thank the two respondants to my question of frustration. I agree that I missed the obvious instruction: Read The Instructions Dummy! Having now read them I am to understand that before installing 1.15.2 everything needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled. Ignorant question: Where may I find the links to the companion files to complete the revised installation?

In the interim I "futzed" with the installation as is. I first deleted both files in the folder:

Razorworks\cohokum\graphics\ui\common\

I next placed the following two statements into the common file:

pointer.PSD 1K 4/6/98 9.33am
POINTER.RGB 1K 1/22/11 10.42pm

This initially brought a favorable response. EECH launched and loaded all support functions from 'sound' to graphics'. Yet as it was to transition to the players main screen, the full launch was aborted by a warning:

"Current player profile is corrupted"

The launch process reports version 1.15.2 with a GWUT1152 CSV.

Are there ideas as to how the player profile can be corrected? I want very much to avoid a complete deinstallation and reinstallation.

Thank you

As far as I know the advice is in this post
Quote:
After unpacking FIX files you should manually delete playersv.bin file from /cohokum folder. If you have profile from 1.15.0 or 1.15.2RC3 or earlier, you can copy it into 1.15.2 /cohokum folder. If you still want to use current 1.15.2 profile you can change it's version manually in any HEX editor - change first byte value of playersv.bin file from 04 to 05.

I hope that's what you were after!

Thank you Doctor_Wibble for pointing out the obvious. That was in fact part of my first attack to overcome the "player corruption".

I verified the absence of the 'playersv.bin'. The game continues to fail due to corrupt player data.

D'oh!
Beyond that, I can only suggest file/folder permissions, possibly also a bit obvious...

don't understand why you had to do such manipulations. are you installing EECH from CD? in this case did you install last official patch as well?

to solve fatal error:
- be sure that you are using latest version (COHOKUM.EXE creation date is June 7)
- try to run game with Administrator rights (right mouse button)
- place this file into cohokum folder. it should solve problem, but it's source still will be unknown.

Thank you, 'thealx', your Playersv.bin worked and resolved the corrupt player alert that caused previous failures.

As for my many 'manipulations' they were caused by an impatient disregard to the instructions. I had heard for some time of the 1.15 upgrade. Upon seeing its release, I immediately installed it into EECH over the previous version. Question: Did this error in judgment fail to include some of the features and benefits of a complete make-over, uninstall and reinstall, of EECH?

As for the replacement of the 'pointer.rsd/.rgb' files I had experienced this failure in 2011 which caused a corruption of both files. Cause unknown.

After replacing this files, the program launched but failed its transition to the player's menu, terminating with a corrupted players file warning. With your 'patch' the program now launches fully.

My main executable is dated June 6, 2014 (10:37PM). The program launches with a Version 1.1.52 with a GWUT1152.CSV

Any constructive advice would be welcome. Otherwise, I thank you for assisting in the problem resolution

so there was some file at the end? =)

I'm glad you get it work, even if real reason wasn't found.
