Maybe not so much if you don't have Smartphone. I can't afford such devices.
There are literally people in 3rd world countries with smartphones. In some places in the world, they don't have computers or other access to the internet, they use smartphones because the electricity is good enough to recharge a battery but not run a computer. Considering you can get a smartphone for free, only paying the monthly wireless cost which is only a bit more than a standard phone (thanks to all the fees and taxes), if you can't afford a smartphone there's no way you can afford the internet access necessary to be here! look what they to you ...people at work checking their application programs, etc ...or anywhere you see them .... their lives are their phones ...... i wonder how lost they would be without it. No, people do that to themselves. A phone can't force it. The problem is when employers feel they can use a person's cell/email to get free work afterhours and at the employees expense. Most employers do not give employees a cell phone, but feel free to use the employees' as a regular work device 24/7, even when sick or on vacation. It's one thing if your job description is to be on call at certain times, but many employers take advantage of employees that aren't in that kind of job.

An even bigger question is what did we do before GPS and MapQuest? We bought those huge printed fold out maps and struggled to open them completely while inside a car.

I've got rid of my "smartphone" and replaced it with a notso-smartphone. No camera. Just a simple flip phone with unlimited talk and text. I don't text all that much. I LOVE IT!  Keeping life simple and actually enjoying what's around me. Not to mention a lot less $$$

 That is my phone. The only problem I have is when I drop it, I'll have to reset the clock. It defaults to year 2000 or 2002. Everything else I do on the iPad when at work, which is mostly reading books or browsing forums.

A friend just posted this on facebook: My information in Eastern Airline was leaked.
Telephone fraud tired use fake flight cancel information with my name and booked flight to set me on giving them my credit card number to let them charge expense for flight change.
At the beginning, I doubted the flight is on next Monday why it's cancelled by technical issue today. It's not logical. Then when they asked me for credit number, I was 100% sure it's telephone fraud and I rejected.
After the call, I check the phone number carefully it's not from official eastern airline. Then I called them to check the flight on Monday and I was told the status is normal.
Luckily, I lost nothing. I searched the internet it's a quite new story but a lot of people lost big money because they gave cheaters their bank number with online verify number or credit card number.
Next time better to answer any phone after checking number carefully. Still feel I was a fool to talk with the cheater for 3 minutes. Since there is no adequate evidence to say the Eastern Airline leak my information, it's waste time to deal with them. I will call Chine Telecom for refund my cost on this call and hopefully I can do something more. It's the firm to sold the number to telephone fraud!!!
With the law system in China, it's waste time to sue any of them. However, I feel terrible.
