I still listen to stuff that was just released. The caveat is that it was just released by artists I've been listening to for years already, like the latest Foo Fighters or Green Day albums.

I'm hard pressed to think of a group that started after 2000 that I listen to, other than recombinant bands like Velvet Revolver or Audioslave that formed post-2000 but consist of new mixes of pre-2000 artists.

Pretty often for me, but then a large part of what I listen to these days is classical and jazz type music. Some of this is recent performances and recordings of obviously older material.

Rock music has just about completely faded from my interest. For whatever reasons, I just cannot seem to stand it any more.

While I typically like 70s/80s rock, I'm a guitar player and I love blues. So when Joe Bonamassa has new stuff I enjoy it.

As far as mainstream bands, I listen to Kings of Leon.

"War Is The Answer"

[Verse 1]
(GO!)
This aint a test, #%&*$# the rest.
Learn to set the record straight.
Talking #%&*$# behind my back, dare you say it to my face?
I've heard the words roll out your lips.
You little trendy #%&*$#' #%&*$#!
The time has come to get you some, cause I just do not give a #%&*$#.

[Chorus]
Do you take me for a fool!?
How's it feel to be a tool!?
See to me you're just a cancer!
#%&*$#!, War is the Answer!

[Verse 2]
As of now the end begins,I want to laugh but there's no joke.
To eat with the beast, and run with the wolves.
On the Ashes you must choke.
I know it's got to chap your ass, to think I just won't go away.
Forget me not, I'm writing you off.
I've got nothing more to say.

[Chorus]
Do you take me for a fool!?
How's it feel to be a tool!?
To me you're just a cancer!
#%&*$#!, War is the Answer!

[Bridge]
(Get some!)
You wanna disrespect me, you little #%&*$#' punk?
Everything I've done to be who I am? As far as I've #%&*$#' come?
I'll slap you so #%&*$#' hard, It'll feel like you kissed a freight train.
#%&*$# you!

[Guitar Solo]

(Rawr!)

[Chorus]
(Bam!)
Do you take me for a fool!?
How's it feel to be a tool!?
Talking #%&*$# behind my back...
See to me you're just a cancer!
The time has come to get you some.

As one of the younger guys here, I usually am up to date with most of the more recent stuff I'm hearing- problem being mist of the radio stations I can pick up in this area are complete and utter garbage, but that's a topic for a separate thread. I'm very picky these days about the hip-hop artists I'll listen to, and when it comes to EDM, I like a lot of it, but a lot if the newly popular stuff, especially if it's just sampling a bunch of other songs, a la Girl Talk, it just annoys me. Country, I've pretty much given up on- too many songs that all sound *exactly* the same.

You mean it's all female lead singers who sound like Lady Antebellum? wink

If only. The video in this article sums it up nicely:

Fortunately, folk and bluegrass have very robust followings here, and a lot of younger artists are doing some really cool things with the genre. Here's a couple of local area artists I know:

I might be getting on a bit but I tend to listen to quite alot of contemporary bands.
Probably the best I've seen this year are Crossfaith- brilliant live and I really rate the rhythm section

Another Japanese band I like

A couple of UK bands that I think are worth watching out for

a couple of years old, but these guys always put a smile on my face

Charts became irrelevant to me in '77

I have sat radio and I listen to an alt rock station that plays lots of current music. There are lots of good songs out there if you look for them.

A lot of good unique music is still out there sure it might not be the type you're into or the unique of yesterday but its out there. I've really been getting into a lot of what would be considered alternative or adult alternative the last few years. And whenever I can't find something new I go backwards in time and discover something while not new to the world is new to me.

Like good ol' Carl Perkins

Went to see these guys last summer, err, no, wait,
it was the summer before; anyway, it was great!
It's new, it's old, it's out on the bleeding edge
of the audio universe (and do check out @ 36:20
for the guest stepping out):

Paraphrasing Townsend, I may be old, but I'm not listening to
boring retread music. In two weeks, Medeski Scofield Martin and Wood,
and Charles Lloyd, at the jazz fest.
