Oh I see. So this "spin off" sounds like it will be the equivalent of the individual Marvel films while JJ's film is the equivalent of "The Avengers".

It could be anything. They could make a Boba Fett film about his teen years, turning into a top bounty hunter during the years of the Empire.
They could make it during the Clone Wars. They could make it between Ep 1 and 2, or 4 and 5, or 6 and 7, or during any of those.

The only real stipulation seems to be that no events there will impact the 7/8/9 stories, although the reverse may not be true.

Where did you read that? All I know is that Lucas was trying to get a live action Star Wars show going but they couldn't make the budget work.

It was going to take place between Ep 3 and 4, which is when the new Rebels animated series will be set.
I wonder if there will be any use of stories planned for that series used in Rebels.

Given how expensive a SW series could be, I would think Disney is taking a wait-and-see approach with the new films before they try a series. The Agents of Shield show has not turned out to be the ratings powerhouse they obviously thought it could be, and that's based on a series of films that has earned a ton more money in the last 10 years than SW has.

Maybe "annoying" is a better term. The relative lack of the Jedi/Sith characters in the original movies allowed the more interesting parts of the movie to flourish.
The Force was a cool thing when it was less predominant.

I wouldn't be suprised if it's a spin off from one of the characters in the new movie.

I would, actually. There's no real way to know if any of those characters will be popular.

Many characters from the original trilogy are famous. I can't imagine one from the new getting that way so fast, at least not after just the first film.

A Boba Fett origin movie would be awesome..

I personally vote for an Admiral Motti origin story. I just have a burning curiosity to know if Vader really just disliked him!

It was called "Attack of the Clones" IIRC, and that wasn't the overall opinion I remember...

I am bracing for the next equivalent of the Holiday Special. If a legitimately good movie comes out of this I'm going to be bamboozled, but naturally that isn't going to happen. Really it's a matter of "how horribly bad is this going to suck" on a scale of one to ten (ten being worst) with a hard and locked lower limit of 7

I think whatever happened to him between the events of that movie and his appearance in Empire would be sufficient for a good spinoff. Of course, watching him scalp wookies might not be very palatable. I don't really want to see him "humanized". Awwww... he just a widdle mis-understood bounty hunter. Awwww...

IMO, if you have a movie about Boba Fett, he needs a nemesis we can sympathize with rather than trying to make a stone-cold evil badass sympathetic. Think about No Country for Old Men .

EDIT: Stupid me. Why on Earth would they make a Star Wars film for adults? The teen thing is way more likely... I am dum.

BTW, does everyone know that David Lynch was one migraine away from directing Return of the Jedi?

A lot of people (critics included) were convinced that the JJ Abrams Star Trek reboot was going to be a box office disaster but it turned out to be the total opposite.

So who knows how this Star Wars film will turn out?
