I knew a badass cat years ago. She was a friend's Abyssinian and was the coolest cat I've ever known. Very friendly, smart, etc. She also HATED their neighbor's 2 German Shepherds.

The neighbor's fence on the side shared with my friend's house for some weird reason had a gap on the bottom - you could see the dogs' snouts when they would bark.

One day I'm walking to my friend's door and here comes the cat walking along with me. The dogs do their thing (bark and growl at anyone who walks by) and the cat looks over like she's annoyed (I imagine she was thinking "How dare they disturb my pleasant stroll!").

In the blink of an eye she's under the fence beating the crap out of the dogs - she's chasing them all over their yard and they're doing that "I'm scared and hurt" yowl. This goes on for a couple of minutes.

Silence. A moment later the cat comes back under the fence all friendly like nothing happened.

Those dogs never barked in her presence again, lol.

for the 3rd time, the dog was an 8-month-old labrador/chow mix.

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

The huge problem with the graph showing fatalities by "pit bulls" is that "pit bull" is used by uniformed police and media to describe the following breeds:

American Bull Terrier
American Satffordshire Terrier
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
American Bulldog
Valley Bulldog
Bull Terrier

Dogs that regulary get called "pit bulls" by uniformed people: Cane Corsos, Dogo Argentino and even Boxers.

The breeds in the first list have become "stylish" with a very corrupt and violent group who have often conditioned their specific dogs to be savage. Unscupulous breeders have gotten into teh game as well to try to breed "fighting dogs"

When Lassie was popular on TV there was a huge increase in popularity for Rough Collies. Unscupuloue breeders churned out thousands and tried to reproduce the long narrow head shape that proved popular with owners. They eventually did that but also greatly intesified the protective sheepdog traits of some dogs. This resulted in a bunch of savagely protective aggaressive Collies.

I looked but could not find stats on fatal dog attacks from the WW2 era. I would be willing to bet that most fatal dog attacks back then were by "German Shepard" type dogs (this includes a number of very similar looking NW European breeds) simply because this breed was used by the Germans for guarding and subduing prisoners.

"there are lies , damn lies and then are statistics"

A quick google search can find all sorts of stats that "show" how bad "pit bulls" are, but they always lump "pit bull type" together against other specicfic breeds. One had 66 fatalities over a 20 year period by "pit bull types" and 39 by Rotweillers" ....if you want to manipulate that a wee bit you could say that there are 6 breeds in the 'pit bull type' and "on average" they would have caused 11 fatalities each over 20 years vs the 39 by Rotweillers ...11 vs 39....that means that Rotweillers killed 350% more.

It's all media sensationalism and uninformed nonsense. Just like all the people who confuse Greyhounds with Great Danes !! Yes....I have people think my 75 lb Greyhound is a Great Dane at least onec or twice a week. It just shows how ignorant of dogs , most folks are

Sometimes cats have very strong sensation, it is unexplainable, but present. I have a friend with a cat and everytime when I visit her and have some pain or I`m just sick, the cat comes and sits exactly whe my pain is. Go figure ...

Soit's a global conspiracy ey Archie? If we can take our tin foil hats off for a secondhere are just some of the different classifications of breeds/types from the website that those stats came from for dogs that have killed people/kids.

Pitbull
Boston terrier
Mixed-breed
Bullmastiff (in my mindthis is a Pitbull but they classify it as NOT a Pit bull)
American bulldog-mix
Rottweiler
German shepherd
Cane corso
Presa canario
Boxer-mix
Mixed-breed
Labrador-shepherd mix
Mastiff-Rhodesian ridgeback mix
Golden retriever-mix
Husky

Seems to me they can distinguish what isn't a Pit bull just fine. Wether Pit bull is just a "type" with many sub-breeds is irrelevantthe Pit bull is the largest type of dog that kills peoplethe grasping at straws that folks are doing to try and fault the stats is pointless.

You still haven't explained how, if it's the breed itself, there are so few fatalities. If it was the breed we'd be seeing hundreds of thousands of deaths by pit bulls every year. We don't because it's not the breed. 25 fatalities out of however many pit bulls are in the states is a drop in the bucket. It's statistically insignificant.

I honestly don't know what your talking about. The website only records fatalities in the US by dogs (all breeds)and Pit bulls seem to account for 75% of all fatalities each yeareven though they only represent 5% of the dog population in the US.

What's your question?

when did this turn into a Pitbull witch hunt?

The breed in the video wasn't a pitbull, so all those stats dont mean didly in this thread anyway.

All breeds, are wild animals, and when put with a irresponsible owner/person, tragedies happen.

Scroll through the Fatalities list online and read the case details 75% of them are toddlers left alone with their pet or a relative/neighbors pet.

The amount of reports of "Pit Bull Packs" killing people doesnt add up to the population % Numbers, if PBs are so few, then why are there so many cases involving stray packs of Pitbull/PitBull Types in the database.

Are Pitbull's Dangerous... Heck Yes. Which is why I said, Owners need to be responsible with the breed, and not raise one just to have one.

In my neighborhood alone, there's 18 Pitbulls, and 10 of them visit each other on the weekends for neighbor hood BBQs, they were raised responsibly, trained, and supervised, 10 pitbulls in a back yard playing or just lounging in the sun while people drink and eat BBQ.

It's pretty simple, really. You go on and on about how many people are killed by pit bulls, but don't mention how many pit bulls there are in the states. A million? 5? 10? In any of those cases, 25 fatalities aren't even statistically significant. So if the breed itself was dangerous, why aren't we seeing almost as many fatalities as there are pit bulls? BECAUSE THE BREED ISN'T DANGEROUS.

This thread is starting to annoy me. Try to clarify things which some serious researchers are doing. Spent some time digging but then again, I have my limits.

Look at the link below which have many citations from journals

Potentially Preventable Husbandry Factors Co-occur in Most Dog Bite-Related Fatalities

I know where Force10 got his statistics

Statistics are from media reports

Here's the thing. From the articles above which have cited papers they pointed out the following

Quote:
The authors of the new JAVMA paper reported that the breed(s) of the dog or dogs could not be reliably identified in more than 80% of cases. News accounts disagreed with each other and/or with animal control reports in a significant number of incidents, casting doubt on the reliability of breed attributions and more generally for using media reports as a primary source of data for scientific studies.

The statistics from dogsbite relied on media reports which is a method seriously doubted by researchers.

Back to square one. Get the correct data. I'm out of here.

Yep I'm getting annoyed too. I'm doneyou guys that think that Pitbulls aren't dangerousfine.

As I've stated beforeI've seen a Pitbull unprovoked attack not 6 feet from my children and I. Once you hear a grown man screaming and pleading for someone to help him while he's being attacked by "The Family dog" you might change your minds. Let's hope it's not one of your kids or relatives that has to pay the price for you to open your eyes.

My mom tells a story of me crawling on the floor when I was a young. The dog started nipping at my legs and my cat jumped off the couch and tore the dog up. The dog never bothered me again.

That cat slept every night in my bed from the time I was born until we had to put her to sleep when I turned 17.

Wow! That's a pretty good for a cat to live that long. Was she an indoor only cat?

And it would be the same thing if the family dog was a GSD, Akita, Rottweiler, Doberman, Chow, or any other large hunting dog. The fact still remains that if the pit bull breed itself is genetically predisposed towards unprovoked attacks, there would be many, many times more of them.

Anyone wanting to know the truth about which dog breeds are the most dangerous can simply ask a mailman. I spent 4 years walking door to door, and a pit bull is going to get me the most worried, period. But of course my years of real world experience involving literally thousands upon thousands of dog encounters doesn't mean anything if you just type way more words than me...

No other breed put me in the emergency room - TWICE.

Chihuahuas though, they sure try to put you there!
