Im going to reinstall SF2 after a long time away from it. What are the current mods everyone is using? What are the must have user created addons?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

first, BUY "AI addon packs" 1 & 2 from Thirdwire Scoobe! Well worth the price!

now, excuse me my shameless self promotion but:
Green Hell 3.5 for Vietnam map, SARCASM 1.5 and several soviet cockpits (Su-9, Su-7BMK, MiG-19S/SF/P, La-15) to spice up the looks and bit different gameplay

Hey Beach,,
Great screen shots...I haven't fired up SF in a while and am whoohfully behind in updates and downloads. But the terrain looks really improved from what I remember.

Any advice on how to install the Green Hell mod? The instructions state that you unpack the zip file into the 'Vietnam Folder', which I don't seem to have after installing SF2 Vietnam. dizzy

Needs to be the VietnamSEA folder:

C:\Users\<>\Saved Games\ThirdWire\StrikeFighters2V\Terrains\VietnamSEA

Note the location - this is for the mod folders NOT where the core game files are installed.

Create the Terrains and VietnamSEA folders yourself if they are not there by default (cant remember)

I've tried to get the mods to work without success. I noticed that in these main folders that there are CAT files. Do you have to extract the CAT files?

You need to run the game at least once to make the necessary files in your c:\users\your name\savedgames\thirdwire\strikefighters2v. You shouldn't need to mess with the cat files.

You are in the wrong place - your mod folders (where you need to add mods to) will be in Saved games by default as the path I've posted above.

You don't need to extract anything for Green Hell - just put the files in the right place

Thanks for the assistance! I had to manually create the Terrains folder. Works great now!

BeachAV8R's AAR's and the screenshots showing the capability of this sim makes me want to get back in.
Third Wire's store indicates that Strike Fighters 2-Vietnam requires Windows7/Vista as an OS. I have Windows XP.
Will it fly?

Whats your PC specs? If you still have any SF1 series games they might be better for your hardware.

It will run on XP - but the SF2 series is better on multi core CPUs, Win 7 and its DX10 (WIn XP in DX9 only)

That's very low spec for flight sims - so probably forget anything like you see on AV8Rs shots.

They originally were supported on XP but SF2NA wont run on XP (without downloading a modded terrain) - so can see why its only vista/7

You could run SF2 with vastly reduced graphics settings and DX9 only - but its your own risk if you buy.

Actually, hunter64, I've run the series on much lower specs than that on a pc in my garage. With all settings on high, except for water, and with shadows set to off (or low), I was able to achieve 25-30 fps in many a heavily modded install. During heavy combat action it may have dropped, but nothing that was exceptionally noticeable.

As a data point, with my antique CPU but fairly recent GPU, I get quite good performance (30-60fps) and quality (Unlimited) in SF2 (and OK performance in DCS and Falcon with low AI density)
