Hyperlobby is trash.

It only became popular because it was less crappy than the ubi.com launcher.

You can just get the IP of your favourite servers from their websites and join directly.

Edit: Or use Xfire

Doggles... to say that HL is trash is pretty rude for starters (have you done better?) and a slap in the face of likely over millions of games served.

Try to be a little more smooth if you have criticism. Why don't you like HL?

I can second that, actually, I do like hyperlobby and its functions (air wars, coop missions), not to mention, that its a meeting place for all those forgotten sim classic you would have hard time to play any other way. Oh and its free.
It did a lot to keep the Il2 community together.
I can hardly imagine what can be the problem with it?

I agree with you 100 percent!
I used hyperlobby for years... it gave me some of my best gaming experiences.

Mind you, I agree with you. I didn't think it was still going, though, so I'll have to reinstall rather quickly exitstageleft

I don't get why people have this emotional response. It's a piece of software, it doesn't have feelings. You guys are getting upset because... why, exactly? I'm hurting hyperlobby's feelings? Boo-hoo.

The simple fact is it's poorly written. It needs to be updated to take into account new difficulty settings and new online wars. It doesn't report player counts accurately. It has had bugs where you could crash the server. It's got an unintuitive interface, the chat is only useful for trash talking and trolling, and it's just not a very good piece of software.

Has it served us well? Maybe, maybe not. I remember times when we had to get Jiri to update his software because Forgotten Skies got too big and we had to get him to make a 2nd page. Hard-coding that sort of thing is a really bone-headed decision.

/shrug

If you think it's good, then that's your opinion. My opinion is that it's simply "the devil we know" and that it's better than the old ubi.com lobby we all used to use back in the v2.01 days. But being better than ubi.com isn't much of an achievement.

Was it hyperlobby? Or was it your friends and the sims you were flying? For me, at least, the "lobby" doesn't have any real effect on my enjoyment of the game. I get my enjoyment from flying a quality sim on voice comms with my friends.

If you changed the sim to a crappy one, or made me fly solo, I would enjoy it much less.

If you changed the launcher program I'd probably still have a good time.

To each their own, I guess, but the FREE Hyperlobby client made it really easy to just hop into any open server that had the same mod (i.e., no mods) that I did and the number of other players I was looking for. Our squad, the 2GvSAP, used it pretty extensively, even when flying on our own servers, dogfight and coop. The chat was a nice feature, too - I didn't actively participate much, but I sure eavesdropped in on some very interesting conversations.

Sure, there are a few quirks and nuances that made it unique, but, until this thread, I've never heard of anybody hating it so much that they'd rather fat-finger IP addresses.

Interesting.

Ah yes, thanks for the reminder. HL also doesn't handle mods.

Well, my fingers aren't fat so I can hit CTRL+C, ALT+TAB, then CTRL+V no problem.

Also, the game remembers the last IP you entered, so you only have to do it once if you're a regular on a particular server.

Thirdly, what I said was in the context of someone who doesn't have a working hyperlobby. That person can simply copy-paste the IP rather than worrying about the "nuances" of 10+ year old software that's clearly not working for him anyways.
