That pic could have been the cover for an ELO album. smile

Actually, when they came to COBO hall, I was assigned to their security detail.
But never met any of them, I got the elevator rolleyes
Did have one of their albums...loved their music.

It's been a while.
Just looked the Vin up...it was 3Y87n128DPD. The last three are the Department ID, I don't have the actual last 3 numbers.

A lot has changed....even the hair....this is the year I retired.

Drove the desk 'most' of the time....or a 318 Plymouth, that slowed me down.
Maybe it was a 383, dunno, just an unmarked DB car everyone knew who was driving it, 'black walls' and 4 doors rolleyes .

3Y87N (N is a 429 Thunderjet).

Depended on the Plymouth. My dad (was an Illinois State Trooper) had a little Dodge Dart that was taken in a drug raid that was turned into a brown paper wrapper. He had a little pop up red light in the back seat. Thing had a 318 in it. Compared to his older 440 Magnum or 429 Super Cobra Jet Monacos and LTDs that he used to drive this thing was puny. But it looked absolutely nothing like a squad car so he would nail speeders all the time with it.

They still have Crown Vics around here. They have some others, too, but the CVs with the little "Police Interceptor" tag on the lower left beside the license plate is still quite common.

FHP now mostly has nice looking Dodge Challengers!

It wouldn't have made much sense. You would have had to redo the motor mounts, possibly the bellhousing for the C6 transmission that would go with it (I'm not sure it would mount up directly from the 385 series engine to the FE series). The 429 made 360hp at its base, it was a lot easier to modify those engines to make 450 hp. Heck, they could turn the engine into a 429 Boss that pulled close to 600HP. The only thing comparable in the FE category is the 427 Cammer, something NO one would put in a 73 Thunderbird. The 427 Cammer was an engine developed by Ford for the Nascar circuit in 1966 but was banned because of pressure from MOPAR because it was giving the Hemi a run for its money.

I'll ask one question. Did the car's air conditioning work? If it did then it wasn't modified. No guy turns his car into a fire breathing monster and then keeps the AC in it.

No one in Florida would take the AC out.

Oh yeah, it had A/C.
I couldn't live without it. I'm sure it was stock. They didn't modify any of the vehicles they gave to us....we (Vice Section) were the 'shame' of the department...lol....it was considered a vacation, a 'reward' to work there.
But anyway, it still had enough under the hood for me. Thanks for the info smile
I really liked the car. It was great for bar hopping, and pickin' up hookers.
Our 'quota' was 10 a month, then you could play at the disco bar, which was the reward.
Anyway...that's what they intended to use it for, not speeders.
Never pulled a speeder over, I was usually goin' too fast. Didn't even have a light.
Felt bad for the street hookers, but it was only a 50 dollar fine, and gave 'em a days rest.... wink pizzed off the pimp. Man, they were messed up, rock bottom drug addicts, not at all like the call girls. I didn't even want them in the car, so we usually worked the hooker bars first, but that another story....and that was 'the good times'.

Jeez......lots of miles on the old frame.
Looking at those two pictures, tells the story.
20 years in the fast lane, takes it's toll.

Everyone knows that if God drives a car, it's a 78 Camaro with T-tops.

Just sayin'.

I've been on this site since the dawn of man, and this is without a doubt, one of the greatest pictures ever posted.
