Hello , i upgraded my pc recently from core2duo to i5 4670 and installed again my old cfs3 which now runs super smooth and i feel like playing it this time smile

i'm running win 8.1 and the intro doesnt play if i dont enable compatibility mode for win 7 or xp etc..
thinking buying WOFF and my only concern is my gfx card which is old but runs ok most games : ati 4850 512mb

i dont know if anyone posted this tip again but i noticed with Fraps that if you set compatibility mode for windows 98 the frame rate almost doubles! without compatibility win98 i have 60fps and with 120 ,anyone confirm this with WOFF or cfs3? (i can see the difference in intense scenes and the speed up works)

ps. i'm running cfs 3.1 with latest AnKor's DX9 shadowing mod

How do I select that mode in Windows 7 - do you know this?

Your card is really a bit old, but it should still give you a good looking sim.
You just lower the "terrain detail" and "scenery detail" (which still looks
good on 3 from 5).

compatability.....I've never known...is it supposed to be set for the computer/op system you're using or the system the game was written for.....or doesn't it matter? CFS3 states it's compatible thru XP but seems to run fine on my win7 set up....except for some framerate issues still. Do you set the cfs3 exe to ??? and the WOFF exe....neither, both???....happy for some wisdom from youz guyz here....thx

i set it to cfs3 exe cause i dont have WOFF right now but if i had it i would set and WOFF exe and see if there is any difference in fps , but if you have a powerful gfx card i dont know if you notice any difference in fps , by the way AnKor's mod is really something very nice smile

Hello psy,

The fact that you get 120 fps when you put CFS3 into Win 98 compatibility mode means that you have vsync(vertical synchronization) disabled, which can cause "tearing" of the picture on your monitor. It bothers some people, but not everyone. If you enable vsync, the drawing on the screen will match the refresh rate of your monitor's screen. Most monitors are still 60 Hz, while some new ones have a 120 Hz refresh rate.

You've got yourself a nice CPU there, and now the video card is the bottleneck. OBD recommends a 2 GB video card, so if you are going to try to play WOFF with 512 MB, your experience may not be so good.

hi, maybe thats the case but even if i disable vsync (always off) from catalyst control panel i get the same results , seems that vsync is hardcoded always enabled in cfs3 except if you turn on win98 compatibility?,
the good thing is i dont have any tearing in cfs3 and i dont like tearing at all, anyway i will probably upgrade my gfx in the near future , if i buy WOFF first i'll share my experience with 4850 smile

ps. monitor running 60hz

Aaaahhh - yeah, I forgot about that - this explains, why I get 60 frps.
I have v-sync set to "always on".

Yep, so if you're always pegged at 60 fps, then life is good!

Compatability mode is a hit or miss. It's main use is to allow programs to run in their native environment. For me, I use xp sp2 compatability because my ms ffb2 responds better. My suggestion is you check/tweak your aa settings to get better fps.

Probably a bad idea as the exe is able to access more than 4GB now so Win98 compatible settings may break something.
(Also reason not to swap the cfs3.exe for another).

Ok...bad luck w/ "I tried Win98 mode...game fatal error'd on startup..back to XP..all good". What does that mean? ...wish I were savvier and knew what that implied..... Anybody have a clear answer to "Compatibility" settings in the "properties" tab? Maybe not....maybe it doesn't matter....back to pushing buttons....hoping for the best

Well I'd say have no compatibility set unless you have problems, Windows 7 shouldn't need it.

Vista ( wounded) well er yeah maybe try XP compat if you have problems, but not Win98.
