http://www.arma3.com/news/arma3-campaign-episode-3-available-march-20

"Bohemia Interactive has set a release date for the third and final campaign episode of their tactical military shooter and combined arms game, Arma 3™. Available on Thursday March 20th, players will be able to conclude the story of infantryman Ben Kerry - a soldier who’s been stationed in the Republic of Altis & Stratis as part of a NATO-peacekeeping mission."

"The final installment of our campaign gives players the chance to experience combat on a larger scale than we've seen so far”, said Arma 3’s Creative Director Jay Crowe. Tactical freedom - together with big, combined arms engagements - is at the heart of Episode 3’s gameplay, as we follow Ben Kerry’s story to its conclusion.

The episode’s content package also includes three brand new vehicles. The first new vehicle making its way into Arma 3’s sandbox is the A-164 Wipeout single-seat aircraft. The A-164 Wipeout, successor to the legendary A-10, features improved performance and armaments, adding some real punch and some great new gameplay opportunities to the NATO faction. The other new aircraft is the To-199 Neophron, which serves as a great addition to the CSAT forces due to its agility. The To-199 Neophron is perfect for Close Air Support and taking off from rough terrain. The third new vehicle is a 6x6 mine resistant standard transport truck, named Tempest. Its primary role is to carry troops and cargo, and its modular design allows for several transport variants of the Tempest truck: cargo, refuel, medical, repair and ammo re-supply."

Not sure what's going on with those, uh, engine nacelles... or that name. Brrrt, though...

Dunno about SU-35, that looks more like a blended F-16 and Frogfoot on the promo screenshot.

In that pic of the "To-199" it looks as if an F-16 and a Su-25 crashed and some insane mechanic cobbled together the pieces which were still useable. wink

The OPFOR jet is real. It's the Yak-130, a trainer aircraft with the possibility to serve as a light attack jet well-suited to low-intensity conflicts or COIN. Incidentally, that makes two total trainers in the game masquerading as actual attack jets, heh. Incidentally, it's slated to replace the L-39 Albatros in service as a trainer -- also known as the AAF jet.

There was a Yak-131 attack variant planned, but it was scrapped due to failing to meet pilot protection standards, says Wikipedia.

http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/russia-orders-yak-130-trainer-light-attack-jets-07229/

I think it looks cute, with its short fuselage and big, happy digital cockpit.

Edit: the Yak-130 NATO name is "Mitten." This only reinforces how cute it is. I'll feel bad about shooting it down... poor Mittens.

LOL, well I just looked it up. The "Mitten" doesn't look as cute in the BI screen as in real life, though maybe it's just the angle.

The real photos do kind of remind me of those "egg" fighter jets.

Yeah, it seems like they've lengthened the fuselage a bit behind the cockpit before it gets to the wing root area. Looks pretty cool IMO -- it really has the profile of a futurized Frogfoot. And the cockpit is in Russian -- go figure?

Wipeout? Really? Really??? A-164?? Where's the A-84 and A-143?

Names notwithstanding, they seem to have taken the A-10 model from Arma 2 and spent a couple of hours doing the Boeing Silent Warthog treatment to it.

The Yak looks cool, but that "A-10" thing is a monstrosity.

Don't want to beat a dead horse, but thank crap this game has so many mods.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

The Opfor Yak in Arma3 probably looks better than the Yak-103 because of the two seat configuration we are seeing in all the photos. Single seat version in Arma 3

I also just noticed that even future versions of the A-10 are rocking the Pave Penny, which is already obsolete on the A-10C.

Anyway, negativity about their artistic vision aside, I'm excited to finish the campaign. I've enjoyed all of the missions so far, though I foolishly ignored the side quests and it now seems to be impossible to go back and play them from the mission list.

Posted to the devbranch.

The A-164 has, possibly, the worst sound ever included in the entire Arma series, for no less than the absolutely famous, beloved GAU-8.

It literally sounds like speaker buzz, amplified.

Maybe it's just a placeholder?

Beautiful glass cockpit in it. They gave fake names to all of the weapons except the GBU-12.

Has BI ever made a satisfying Gatling gun sound? The miniguns and avengers have always been disappointing.

Stealth Warthog has a suppressor on the GAU-8. That must be it.

I love the design of the OPFOR jet. It has a fun loadout, too. Only two lock-on Maverick-type missiles, a nice 30mm gun, two bombs, and many rockets -- and it's pretty fast! Beautiful cockpit and textures, too, and it really feels like a Frogfoot successor. Fantastic addition.

The Mitten does appear a nice OPFOR CAS balance to the A-10. Both will be quite welcome!
