Yes, I use a mod which gives me a complete combat box of 18, my own six plus two other "gost" squadrons of 6 which apparently don't bomb.
The mod IIRC is a revised r&r (roads and rivers) file which does more than its name suggests. Also allows for the number of planes in a fighter squadron to be increased. Got mine at bombs-away.net, a google or two should find it if it's not still there.
