You are not alone. On the rare occasions when I do play, I always play with mechs I have prebuilt because I hate reconfiguring them. I like that it is full screen. I like that I can see my mech in all its glory. I like that I have all my mechs visible without scrolling along the bottom for an hour. I can't stand everything else.
Caveat: I had already taken a long break from the game due to the direction it was taking (ghost heat, cbill nerf, my poor, poor SRMs, etc.) I promised to come back if they made the UI2 delivery date. Well I came back and now I'll wait til the drop module. So I may not be the best one to ask.
I do know some of the guys who drop regularly don't necessarily like it but don't view it much differently from UI1.5.

There are some inconvenient parts to it, but they'll iron that out. Otherwise, I've gotten used to it and I like it well enough. They got the consumables working right, from my experience, and that was my biggest complaint since that affects me pretty often with the arty. They do need mech info to come up at any time, reliably, not just the touchy mouse-over, and it does need more info. We need quicker module selection/uninstall. Those are fairly minor fixes though that I think will be addressed. Not something actually frustrating, just a little annoying. If they really are going to the smurfy layout, that shows they're listening and have a lot of plans in store for it. I do think it's more fun to use and certainly nice being full screen. It doesn't feel like a separate tool from the game now.

The customization section is so cluttered now. I would like the option of having just text instead of icons.

I'm not at all a fan of UI2.0 from my perspective they took the already convoluted small UI1.0 and just blew it up to full screen and made it even harder to view what a mech has on it. Now just to see what weapons a mech has installed: Pick Mech > Configure > LoadOut> RightArm > Left Arm> Right Torso> Left Torso ... damn where did I leave that extra LB10X already!!! Mainly the couple of positives is seeing all my mechs in a single screen, and the awesome full view of the mech standing there in all it's glory. Still though I think UI2.0 is the needed way forward to at least have them stop using it as excuse for turning out nothing but pay farkles, and like UI1.0 which I also hated, I pretty much forced myself to spend a couple of hours in a session of doing nothing but building mechs, and now I have trained my muscle memory and thinking to the unintuitive way they setup to configure the mech. That was enough for me to get over the hump and now I use it without too much hair pulling other than laughing at how crappy it is from time to time. They've committed to making it better and allegedly even "Smurfy like", so it can only get better and in the meantime their dev team now can focus on putting out some actual gameplay enhancements instead of blaming UI2.0 for eating their homework TL;DR just spend an hour building a couple of mechs with UI2.0 you'll pull some of your hair and laugh and cry but once you figure it out it becomes something you just use and laugh at occasionally in between the fun of blowing up mechs.

Don't worry about it too much Doc. This game broke my will. I will log in tomorrow to try out the SRMs, if I can remember how to attach them.

It's not bad after you get used to it, as far as building is concerned. What sucks is locating your parts you need to borrow from other mechs. The mech description button on the lower right helps, since it gives you a smurfy layout of the mech. At the end of the night I go around the mechs I've used and pull the modules off, just as habit. Helps out the next time.

I forget the exact number but it took around 12 mouse clicks & different screens to reload an arty strike on a mech last night. I find it difficult to believe that the UI designers have ever actually tried to use the UI.

Helps out the next time. I need to rewrite this phrase a bit: It IS that bad but you can get used to it. Just because you can perform all of the basic functions does NOT make the design defendable. It is bad. I find it no better or worse than the previous UI. If it met the goal of making things easier to add then great. Hard to quantify that gain since I haven't seen its fruit yet. I just wish they would fix it at a much faster pace. S
