Just wondering Ian if you plan on adding the p39 and p40s in eventually. Something that may be a better fight against the 109 then the lagg and more fun once it goes online. yep

I hope that isn't addressed to me. I'm not involved in this team at all, just loving it as a punter same as everyone else.

If it wasn't and I'm just too up myself forgive me smile

At this point I'd say any plane that's not been announced has a *random number here* percent chance of being included. The actual number is based on difficulty of creating it, data available, utility in the given theater (I don't think we'll be seeing P-38s or Fw200s for example), and sales appeal among other things.

I get the feeling there will be more than enough planes as these aren't going to be as easy to pick up and fly as the ones in Il-2:1946 were. You'll need to spend time practicing with each of them to be competent, let alone proficient.

Actually you'd be surprised about the Fw200 in this theatre ....

My point was more that it was a serious player over the Atlantic, but its role here was far less important and there are other planes that would be worked on first.

Quite. There are stacks of planes we need first. A Ju-52 for a start.

I was so happy when that showed up in the old Il-2!

I was less happy the first time I got shot down by one. cuss

I seem to remember hearing a certain someone say that they were VERY interested in doing a P-40 soon after release, as a lend lease aircraft. The E model to be exact.

Yep from Wiki:

"The Fw 200 was also used as a transport aircraft, notably flying supplies into Stalingrad in 1942."

As development costs for larger multi-engine planes appears higher (based on the Gotha and HP400 prices for ROF), I doubt the Fw200 is a priority when there are so many twin-engined planes we'd rather have first.

Regarding Lend/lease planes, it would be nice to have a familer Western pit. All this German and russian is making my head spin dizzy

Also, a P-40 makes since, as if they go to a pacific theater next*, it'll be available for the earlier parts of the war.

*Makes the most business since to me. You've got CloD and DCS WWII focusing on Europe already, and carrier ops give them a leg up over the competition. Plus all that work put into the very nice water effects and physics from the RoF channel map can be put to good use.

If we're seriously talking popular lend-lease then it has to be P39 all the way... ^^

As the next add on is likely to be the Kuban, Zak has said there may well be lend lease aircraft involved...

I was thinking the release of the I-16 could bring a battle of Moscow map next.

http://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/4016-polikarpov-i-16-rata-mosca/?hl=polikarpov+i-16

I just finished reading Red Phoenix Rising. A good book about the VVS during the war. The battle of Moscow was very prominent indeed.

On the other hand, the La5 and FW190 (paid for by people like me) gets 777 to create Kuban and Kursk maps.

The P39 was effectively used by the Soviet pilots across the front, so that's my pick.

From a business/marketing perspective, I think they might want to distinguish themselves as a Eastern Front sim and market space. DCS picked 1944 western front so wouldn't want to jump into that theater. Why compete unnecessarily.

PTO is wide open. Would love to have pitching carriers for take offs and landings.
However, a battle of Berlin would bring in western front planes. This map would be great.

Can't agree on not competing... competition is good for business. smile
I own DCS, and want to see it succeed of course in the WWII scene, But if 777 want to make more people happy they need to get themselves into Europe or North Africa/Med and sooner rather than later.
If they stick to the eastern front and don't venture into the western theatres and only DCS does, then DCS gets my money not 777.
I'm not really into the eastern front, and I'm only supporting 777 because they need to get this off the ground, plus they have given me such enjoyment with RoF.
Plus I want to see the IL2 world really get back to what it used to be.
If they don't go into other theatres then I'll just be spending my money elswhere, sadly.

I have to agree 200%.
Despite the straordinary graphics, the impressive cure for details and all those amazing smoke/ snow effects... the only true reason I didn't buy BoS and prolly never will is little to no interest in the theatre.
Sorry. frown

I bought BoS with very little interest in the theatre too. I'm just that desperate for one last good flight sim before I throw away my HOTAS in disgust.

I refuse to buy a flight sim that I have no interest in playing, on the off chance that MAYBE someday they'll make the one I really want to play.

The other issue is the MP-only people who seem to feel that the company must dictate which planes are allowed and in what variants or the "servers will become uber plane free-for-alls". So while there's no reason they couldn't put more "popular" planes into BoS even before their proper theater becomes available, the server sitters will complain about the n00bs flying nothing but super planes and making them a sitting duck in their Laggs or whatever.

The idea that the server admin should have missions created such that only appropriate planes are allowed in a given scenario is alien to them.

Yep it's the frag-fest mentality of some people who really should know their limitations and keep with War Thunder and it's ilk.
