It's a comcast provided one... I'm not happy about having to use their stuff, but my roomates didn't want to spring for our own modem and router (long story) It's an all in one deal made by technicolor. Model Number #TC8305C

What I'm pissed at is Verizon's collusion with TWC to halt FIOS rollout.

Mine got upgraded recently - from 2/1 to 48/10, I paid for the full Infinity 2 80/20 service so that as soon as our line gets upgraded I will be automatically switched to that. It went down over the last few weeks thanks to DSLAM dropouts however the road the cabinet is on got flooded earlier this week so the DSLAM got reset - as a result full speed is back. I think speedtest is a bit inaccurate though as I downloaded a 1GB ISO from bit torrent earlier (obviously a free linux distro guvnor!) in just over 4 minutes at an average speed of 5.5mB/s which works out to a connection speed of 60mbit.

One great advantage of Fibre over ADSL though is Ping, on UK servers in BF4 my ping is always around 13-18ms compared to 60 on ADSL smile

"Up to 120" down, 6 up is advertised. In reality, I get about 110 down and 5,8 up. Local cable provider (I get internet and VOIP-phone via my TV cable).

BTW, with LTE I get 100 down on my smartphone (if I'm in a zone with good coverage). T-Mobile.

I recently called my provider to "downgrade" by connection speed & save some money. What's the point in paying for 30mb/sec download speed if your router/modem/lines outside (and whatever else might be working against you) can't handle 30mb/sec in the first place.

Ok I took the speed test and got 17.53mb/sec. Didn't notice any difference between that and 30mb/sec but then I'm not playing some super band hungry game either. Scary how they know who my internet service provider is. Is this speed application owned by Google ?

IP addresses are registered. A simple WHOIS will show them your IP belongs to that ISP, no mystery there.

As for speeds, latency and bandwidth are separate. You can play most games just fine on a 2 down/1 up connection. You want to DL a patch or a new game, or stream a video, THEN you notice the speed.

Yup, downloading games or content is where it comes in handy, like so last night for BF4 patch:

My download speed has gone up by about 4 Mbps and my upload speed has gone up by 1 Mbps.

I am still paying the same low monthly fee I've been paying for 3 years.

I am not going to tell my ISP my speed has increased, you kidding?

50/10 nominal; local tests average 57.5/11.5, 17ms ping; cross-country averages 54.5/11.5, 89ms ping

I am 15Mbps down and I think its supposed to be 5 up. I switched from Verizon DSL last summer when I moved. I am paying the same thing that I was for 3Mbps down and like 1.5 up. There are only 2 high speed internet choices in town, and I had heard a lot of bad stuff about my current provider (Shentel, cable company) from a lot of the students around campus but decided to give it a shot. My first problem was when I had to reboot my router the other day which is 6 months after I got the service.
