So, the new Thief is out in a couple of weeks and is looking quite nice. A few influences from Dishonored are obvious (we'll no doubt have loads of kids, who've never heard of Thief before, saying it's a rip off of it lol) but it still looks like a Thief game to me.

I'll be getting it for PS4 even though it's the most expensive option (PS4 and XB1 are around £45-£50), anyone else fancy it?

Yeah Mace I'm in the Thief boat. I don't have a PS4 yet but this is a game I'd get for it. Its next gen and should play well on the console and I can just be more picky with what I purchase for the PC.

I remember playing Thief for the first time. I never did complete it (sometimes too creepy for me) but it certainly was a new thing and bar setter. I don't mind Dishonored influence, I just hope certain gameplay functions aren't gimmicky and actually purposeful. One thing that does bug me and no game seems to really care to change it is the fact that the grappling rope can only be used in "special" places. That's always been annoying to me and a bit of an immersion breaker. Let us hang a rope where ever we want whether it works well or not.

Looks very good though. I'm thinking of biting the bullet and picking up a PS4 soon with a tv later on hopefully.

I haven't been keeping an eye on this one. What elements of Dishonored did they pull into the series, that's been one of my favorite titles to come out in the last year or two. I liked the original Thief back in the day, but didn't play any after that.

I think the Dishonored reference comes from some of the fps direction in the game when it comes to stealth and takedown. It may look similar perspective-wise to Dishonored but its silly for folks to knock it saying its copying Dishonored. Any camera trickery or special effects that adds to a game's immersion and atmosphere and that is done well should be shared and explored by any title that desires to try it. Dishonored is a great game and so were the original Thiefs. I don't mind it taking ques from it. Some said that Dishonored took some inspiration from the Thief games and certainly had that vibe when it was first being previewed.

Its a good thing. Thief was first but they both apparently inspire each other over time and that's a good thing in my book. Not sure why those phrases always tend to have a negative spin on them. In this case it isn't even logical.

Quite a lot of info here on someone who's played through the first 4 hours and not given any spoilers smile http://www.destructoid.com/preview-the-first-four-hours-of-thief-269451.phtml

Looking forward to it next week. This will be my first pre-order on consoles so I hope to get it delivered early like everyone else does whilst those with PC's have to wait for it to 'unlock'. But, knowing my luck that won't happen lol.

I found a steel case special edition version on Amazon for £44. I was about to order the standard edition which is £47. Odd.

Well let us know Mace your impressions when it comes out with no spoilers please. Just how you feel it looks an plays and even if its different, does it remind you of the classic Thief games.

The temptation is there for me to get the pc version but I expect performance issues and as a result, I was hoping to instead get this for the consoles, hoping it'll be a title that will say, yes, next gen gaming for consoles is here.

Problem is I don't have a PS4 yet. Not sure how long I'll have to wait. Got some vacation coming up so maybe during that time.

As a side, how is your PS4 set up? Do you use a pc monitor or tv? What kind of tv and sound set up do you use?

PS4 set up on my 42" LG TV with just its built in speakers which sound great to me. I had a 360 setup on my PC monitor but I could see jaggies a lot more as I was closer but PS3 and 4 on TV looks great.

I'm also wondering whether to go PC on Thief as I cannot see it being just worth the extra £20 to play on PS4. I know the same team are porting that did Deus Ex HR and that was a great job so I'm thinking I should get on PC and wait for Infamous Second Son to be the next PS4 game I get.

I'm so tempted to get it for pc. Its how I'd prefer it but I'm just concerned about performance. I read the specs and it recommends a corei7 processor and GTX660 card and DX11. I have a corei5 and a GTX570. My card is a DX11 card but most games I have that can used DX11 run like crap. Most of the time DX10 is fine.

I hope it has real options settings that allow you to disable DX11 and SSAO and such. That's one thing that disappoints me with Crysis3. It forces DX11 and it runs poorly for me. Crysis2 allows DX11 option and it ran well with all the tessellation stuff turned off.

I decided on the PC version in the end and got the Master Thief Edition for £29 form Gamersgate as opposed to the PS4 version for £47. Out on Friday here tough so no spoilers biggrin Looking forward to it too though.

Go with PS3 or 360 then as I don't think the PS4 version will look any better than those from what I've seen so far. My rule is, if it's available on PS4 and PC and my PC can run it at high i'll go with that but if not then I'll go with PS4. I'm expecting to go down the PS4 route more and more as my PC gets older.

I was on the fence with this, not knowing much about it. However when GMG are selling the Steam version for £20, why the hell not.

I was going to wait, but feeling like I'm in a gaming slump, I decided to go ahead. I need something fun with an interesting story. Storytelling seems rare in games these days, so I'm looking forward to this. I just hope it's more interesting than the last 2 Square Enix games I got, Tomb Raider and Hitman.

I wouldn't hold much breath waiting for this one. Some parts from a review from Sneaky Bastards - stealth game blog.

Thief is a disaster the likes of which we could not fathom. There is no easy way to say it; we just did not think the game would be this bad.

Thief is about waiting. But not waiting for a gap in patrols, or an opportunity to silently knock out a guard. It’s about waiting for the next three rooms of the level to stream into RAM, as you mash X to jimmy open a window. Waiting for the camera to fly back into Garrett’s head after it swooped down to street level to show you something was happening. Waiting for first-person animations to play out as Garrett slides open all five drawers of a table, one-by-one. Waiting for each cutscene to throw the story further into disarray with nonsense plot mechanics delivered through poorly written dialogue.

We’ve been waiting over five years for Eidos Montreal to deliver its reboot, but upon playing it we discovered we were just waiting for it to be over.

Basically we got a linear action game with atrocious AI, minature maps nad terrible story that doesn't resemble previus Thief games on any level.

I'am a huge fan of Thief franchise. One of my favorite of all time. It's a shame what happend to it.

Some points from other review.

What did they play it on? The website seems to be down.

The pc version got a good review from what I saw on Total Biscuit's page. I tried to skip the gameplay to avoid spoilers, but you can watch the first 11 minutes and the last from 46 minutes without ruining anything. Very positive impression of it.
I got it on pc, but I'll be playing with a 360 controller.

Looks like either the console version doesn't have the custom difficulty, or those guys didn't bother to look. That seems to answer the UI issues.

That will be on console as I know for a fact the PC version has adjustable FOV.
