Games and consoles are such a great marriage in so many ways - 1)the chance of hardware/software conflicts are much less likely than with PCs 2)Optimization for graphics much better than PCs because of hardware standardization 3)Upgrading of individual components unnecessary
Okay, those are not perfect reasons (nor all of them), but in my opinion they contain some of the major truths. Yet for various reasons, some of my favorite games will likely not see console support in the foreseeable future including advanced flight sims, RTS games like Total War series, detailed and advanced combat sims like ArmA series and Steel Beasts. That is why I have chosen not to invest in consoles since 1998 when I started PC gaming.
Ideally, I would love to see the two areas (PCs/Macs and consoles) merge in such a way as to give the best of both worlds. I don't see any technology-based reason for it not to happen.
