Just had a successful intercept mission with only 3 Albatros D.II northeast of Luneville, Lorraine. (My wingman and I each shot down 1 Nieuport 23 - well, these were flown by absolute neophytes; poor basterds...) However - I lost contact to my men and went back to our field (Bühl-Lorraine) quite low. I followed the railway (the new map with the roads and rails was really helpful), and suddenly I saw smoke on the track: my first WOFF-train appeared. I had to make a picture...

Fly anywhere in Flanders and you are bound to see plenty of them, and hear them chugging away if you listen close enough. Thats where I fly most often and I routinely see them off in the distance just doing their thing. Not sure where on the map it was precisely but I noticed a train once where the tracks went right across no-mans land and I watched a freight train chug along from the German sector, across the trench lines into the British sector. Now I bet that would be an interesting trip! I wonder if they changed from a German train crew to an English one as they crossed the border? Madmatt

Madmatt so now the ? is if you shoot it up, do you get credited or reprimanded??

I saw the grey smoke and from the angle I was at, it looked like an observation balloon, and I remember thinking "In the middle of No Man's Land is a weird place to stick an observation balloon" so I flew over to see these guys dutifully chugging back to Germany and I said to myself "Man, that is one dedicated crew!" Before anyone asks, no, I don't remember where it was! Good hunting! RR

Did you have to give this "free front trading" away? Now the officials will surely ban it. I had organised this little trade with Widowmaker, Dezh, Corsaire and RAF_Louvert - German Schnaps, beer and wine from the Rhine for Egyptian cigarettes, Chablis, whiskey and Guinness. Would be such a shame, if they stopped it...

I regularly see trains crossing the No Man's Land in Flanders. They do it even in the middle of big battles
Well, that were the good old railways - tight shedules, dutyfull officials, and no excuses like "bad weather" or "there's a war going on"... Those were the days...
