Just tourism. And sleep. And salted herrings. And walks in the sun by the Volga.

Simple but good.

Great pics Ian, seems a beautiful place, though for some reason it was reminding me a lot of the game "STALKER"

Thanks for sharing, will have a longer look later.

Is that a "Soviet" filter you have applied to your pictures? wink

Great shots!

something like that smile

Div HQ of the 138 Red Banner Rifle Division which held Ludnikov's Island. This was not an island but was a small pocket of Soviet troops cut off from the rest of their army and with the Volga at their backs. There was no escape so they held in the face of the Germans.

Ian, thanks for sharing. I love these peaks into another country's "ordinary life".

Makes me think I should do the same with some of the things I see on my travels throughout the US. Not the "grand" places, but the everyday towns and industrial areas that I visit as a truck driver.

Yes it's the out of the way places that fascinate me ...

These are from the Don at Kalach west of Stalingrad and just off the south-east corner of the EA map.

Thx for sharing all of those, fascinating.
The Grain Elevator seems to be in pristine condition, was it put back into normal operation at war's end ?

Cheers,
