Okay, so we recently (yesterday) upgraded from 10Mbps to "up to" 50Mbps. It is spotty so far, but this seems to be about the average result:



So, my questions are:

1. What are yours (give or take); and
2. Is this a reasonable number to average for the "up to 50Mbps" category

120 down and 5 up is what the service provider advertises from Telenet.be
Originally it was a 50mb/s connection but they upgraded it sometime last year at no extra cost, I am on the standard package here.

When I get home, I will post my laptop on WFI speed. Warning, this will make you cry.

I have download envy. Comcast is my provider and get about 20 - 23Mb/s

That's with every phone line but the one line, disconnected where the line splits to each room. With other room lines hooked up it's crap.

If you're running your connection thru a router, one that's yours and not provided by the ISP/cable company, it can slow you down. You'd need to connect your PC direct to their cable modem to see.

I have to do that, my home wifi router cuts my DL speed by 50% as it's an older model that can't hack the higher speeds.

Its best to test your ISP from coast to coast and not near your home, which is always high.

It misleads you in thinking you got a fast connection.

I have 10 meg service. The high is 16 so far and averages about 5.6 right now.

But, I can watch YouTube and Netflix, and download "things" within a reasonable time. Really no need for what I consider "super-fast" speeds.

How do you guys get these speeds? How much do they cost? We don't have anything like that here....though we should get Google Fiber soon....

I'm on Verizon FiOS with a 50Mb/25Mb plan. It appears my upload bandwidth has been raised. I also have the Standard Def TV and Telephone bundled with my internet.

I pay about $140 and am probably getting ripped off.

We just switched to Comcast's X1 Platform, and though I'm not a particular lover of Comcast generally, their new internet offering is fast (Google fiber is coming to town, which might explain it):

Bear in mind, though, that the server tested here is close (within 50 miles), which makes a significant difference. The Comcast bundle--cable, phone, and internet--is around $130 a month, which is a pit, but . . .

I am still on 6 MB down and 1 MB up with AT&T DSL.

They have this city split into sections by AT&T Uverse DSL and Verizon and Time Warner Cable.

I would love to have Verizon and unfortunately, where I am in this part of the city, Verizon doesn't serve.

It's monopolized by AT&T.

But if I move up 2 miles North, I can get Verizon but the cost of housing goes up substantially by about $1000 a month!

Man, if I had a faster option I'd take it. There are too many teenagers in my house running their phones, laptops, FaceTime etc. it's crazy.

Hey Guys I envy the ones that mentioned Google Fib=re !! Wow do you realize the speeds they offer 1gig up/down WOW!! here are some of my speeds which I have a 50/10 plan PRovider is xFinity:














This upto is there caveat to say you are getting upto such and such but fact is it should be at least 80% of your rated speed.. I get in the USA my rated speed no matter where I go so it is sad to see others getting under but most here seem to be within the 80%.. I am hopefull that one day these ISP's will Offer Symetrical speeds..

I am a big advocate of that but having now outlet to voice I do so on all these threads.. Hopefully someday Google Fibre will take off like a Virus..

Better today....I don't feel like I'm getting shafted anymore. But still can't wait for Google Fiber. Should hopefully be later this year or early next (it's next to impossible to get actual updates on where they are on putting it in...)

I have the same package as you Airdrop, (50 Mbs) and we're lucky to see 18 down. Comcast is "looking into it" I'm ready to strangle the punks.
